I found the tiles quite interesting and well displayed. I thought the 7 euro fee was a little high for what you saw. The explanations of the tiles and history of the tiles were good and it was interesting how many of the tiles were collected. There were quite a few people in the small space when we were there - perhaps 16 to 20 people when we visited.

Our first time to Sicily and this was one of our best experiences. Second only to the Cappella palatine Chapel. Claudio was informative, passionate, patience and encouraged questions. It was truly a rewarding visit. Building difficult to fine but the owner greeted us from his balcony . What could be more Sicilian. Now how do we get more tile in our home back in Michigan.This would be a great exhibit for art museum in States.Marcia from Michigan

We had the pleasure of seeing this amazing collection last night. Claudio's tour was excellent. The opportunity to view the art in such an intimate surrounding is so rare. We loved the juxtaposition of the historical tiles and the modern furnishings of this wonderful apartment. In addition to the tiles, be sure to check out the other charming and eclectic collections in the rooms. Bravo!

We wouldn't ordinarily think that a tile museum sounded interesting but having read some of the TA reviews our interest was piqued and we emailed to arrange a visit. On arrival we were greeted by Claudio and shown into the apartment. The tiles are actually displayed in the owner's home hence the need for booking. It was great to see them incorporated into the rooms alongside other artworks and collectibles. Claudio speaks excellent English, and explained the history of the manufacture and design of the tiles using specific tiles as examples. The explanation wasn't rushed and he waited for us to finish looking at the tiles he'd just shown before continuing. We were surprised when he encouraged us to touch the tiles and feel the difference in texture of the glaze - not something we're used to in museums of art or historical artefacts! At the end of his explanation he invited us to spend as long as we liked to look more closely at the tiles and take photographs. There was no feeling of being rushed or carefully watched but Claudio remained in the background and was happy and able to answer all of our questions. In total we spent a hugely enjoyable hour there with a new appreciation for this type of Italian art. We'd love to return after they extend the rooms to increase the display space in the coming year.

Interesting but I am not sure it deserves to be rated number 1 in attractions in Palermo. The tiles are nice and the explanation by the guide is interesting but there are other attractions I thought were nicer.

I never would have gone to a museum like this if I did not hear about it on TA. It was a little hard to find because the sign is High up. The tour and the history of tiles in Italy was fascinating. I have much more appreciation of the tile work I see in historical buildings. The building was cool too.

Like many here, we found Stanze al Genio from TripAdvisor. We missed the part about making a booking so stopped by one day but couldn't go in. However, I'm glad we booked and came back!! It's not just that the collection of tiles is stunning, it's also how well the entire home is presented. This is not a 'museum' this is a collectors home, who has surrounded himself with his passions. Getting a glimpse of a beautiful designer home in the heart of Palermo is also part of the treasure of this visit. The tour, given in English, was incredibly interesting and detailed. The building is currently under renovation which will allow them to double (!!) the display of tiles in the collection. All questions were answered, we were not rushed in any way and had as much time as we wanted to soak it all in. If you want something a little bit different, and you're interested in architecture, then this is well worth a visit.

I'm so glad that TA had rated this so highly or we would not have known about it. It is somewhat difficult to identify -- you have to call for a reservation, and the place is under construction and in an edgy seeming neighborhood -- so even our cab driver was leery to drop us in front of it. Our guide welcomed us from the balcony and we negotiated our way through the construction to a very nice residence totally dedicated to tiles and other collectibles. He was very very enthusiastic and knowledgable. And the tiles were absolutely captivating. Not only were they beautiful, but the history and the art and culture behind the tiles and museum capture your imagination. And as it turns out, there are several nice bars and a very nice restaurant within an easy walk.

We were so fortunate that a friend traveling with us discovered this wonderful place and we added it to our itinerary. The thousands of beautiful tiles alone are worth the trip, but the way they are displayed in such a beautiful home adds an extra dimension not found in other museums. The years of love and effort that have been put into assembling the collection and restoring the home make it a very special place. Our guide was a big part of bringing the history of the tiles and the house to life. His sense of excitement and appreciation for the continuing development of the museum truly added to our experience. They are currently in the midst of expanding and renovating further into the building, but it didn't have any impact on the displays or our visit. We would highly recommend that you take the time to seek this wonderful gem out and enjoy.

It's not often that you can see such a wonderful private collection. You can read about the actual tiles in the previous reviews. We were lucky enough to have the whole house to ourselves. Ample time for pictures and investigation. All the guys who do the tours are volunteers and have full time jobs since they get no funding from the government. They dedicate their time to this project and it is turning into something magical. It is something different, so if you have seen the churches, the theaters, the castles, take a couple of hours and check out the house. You will not regret it. Booking ahead can be done through email or phone.

An amazing and beautifully presented collection that speaks of the culture and history that runs through southern Italy via Palermo & Napoli. The collection is shown in an exquisite modern setting that is itself layered in the history of Palermo. The owners are restoring the space to its original layout and have already discovered their own historical treasures hidden in the building, which form part of the exhibition. The guide is excellent, very informative and in English. Currently by appointment only, but this was just a quick call to get the time of the next tour.

The designer in the group chose the museum, but the rest of the group enjoyed it a lot. Our guide gave great information on the tiles, their history, and lots of interesting insights that we would not have even thought to ask about.When we visited the main entrance was under construction so we were a little confused on how to enter. We texted the number on the web site and received a prompt response and were met outside and guided to the alternate entrance.

It was our first time in Sicily and having visited the Royal Palace and the Cathedral, it was a joy to step off the busy streets to a sanctuary of calm and beauty. Claudio was a most interesting and well-informed host and was able to explain in excellent English the history and curating of this amazing collection of tiles from Sicily and southern Italy. It most interesting to hear of plans for further developments of this fascinating building.

We went to this 'museum' cos frankly, it wasn't another church (we were all churched out by then). Great collection of tiles dating from late 1700's with such interesting stories behind some of them. The guide made a big difference with his animated passion and his knowledge - you could ask him about any tile and he would have a ready answer or anecdote. The 'museum' is in the private home of the collector (hence the need for a booking). He's been collecting since he was a kid. It was pretty straight forward to make a booking, it was all sorted within a couple of emails. The place is a bit hard to find and undergoing renovations. There is a brown banner with "Stanze al Genio" on it half hidden by vines hanging from the second floor. The tripadvisor nav took us past the apartment building, we should have taken more notice of the street numbers than relying just on the nav.Well worth a visit. It's good when you come out of a place and not feel grumpy about the entry fee (7 euros when we went in Oct 14) :)
