San Vito lo Capo
There are many positive aspects of San Vito. It is not far from Palermo airport, has a long beach surrounded on both sides by steep and scenic mountains, has a beautiful national park just a few miles on the east. The negatives is that it can be very crowded, it is closed to an overbuilt touristic small town, the beach can be a little dirty and the water is shallow. On balance a good place to visit for a few hours, but there are far better beaches and locations in Sicily.
From Catania we travelled to Saint Vito lo Capo where we spent our last three nights; not before stopping at a water park on the way! The apartment was in a great location within a few minutes you would be within town and at the beach, the beach and the town were integrated so you could walk from the beach into the town, and vice versa.Saint Vito is a beautiful town; there is a great buzz with lots of cafes, bars, and restaurants to dine at from morning to evening, something for everyone. There is a great range of restaurants on the beach front with amazing views of the ocean and mountains.During our stay we hired a speed boat for the afternoon which was great fun swimming and visiting other beaches, again such stunning scenery. There are a great range of boat trips to choose from whether you want to hire one of the range of boats on offer or a scheduled boat excursion with other passengers, again there is various options to choose from.We also happened to be in Saint Vito whilst they were celebrating the festival of Saint Vito which was a great cultural experience to encounter.White sandy beaches and clear blue seas was just heaven, defiantly a great way to end the adventure of relaxing in this wonderful town enjoying the sunshine, relaxation, and cocktails! A great way to end what was a great holiday. From Saint Vito lo Capo we travelled to Palermo airport; one of the best parts of the trip was driving through Sicily absorbing the amazing views and scenery along the way which was out of this world, Sicily’s natural landscapes would just continued to amaze you and creep up on you when you would least expect it. The travelling we did was worth it to encounter and see so much of Sicily’s natural beauty which made the trip.Saint Vito lo Capo has beautiful sandy beaches with stunning views; the small town is located between spectacular mountains. This stunning landscape can be absorbed when relaxing on the beach or swimming in the clear blue seas.137 (2)Saint Vito is home to great seafood restaurants fresh from the ocean. There is a large choice of resturants, bars and cafés, great choice of patisseries. It is a little more expensive in Saint Vito compared to other areas of Sicily but still affordable and good value.People are very friendly, there town tends to run a number of annual events including rock climbing and the Saint Vito festival, tends to be notices around for you to gain an idea of what’s going on during the month you visit.Highly recommend doing a boat trip whilst your visiting whether it is a planned excursion or hiring a boat yourself there is a good choice to choose from. The beach is okay. Its quite busy, we were hasseled by street sellers a bit here. The water is quite shallow for some way out. Its okay but not the best local beach. You can hire loungers etc here
I just did not like it there are far better beaches in Sicily.. I would not retur there on my next trip
I have visited San Vito lo Capo with a group of Sicilian friends during this year Cous Cous Fest. Not knowing a lot about the town I dig through the internet and I got prepared. It`s most recognized monument is a Sanctuary church build in 1400s. This little town with carefully manicured facades and the main commercial street filled with gift shops and restaurant didn't impress me at all. Mainly because the famous couscous was hard to find. It took us long exploratory walk to finally discover a tent where we found dishes of couscous on a small paper plates priced 10 Euros. What a disappointment ! .San Vito is situated between mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, Summer time San Vito lo Capo is a home to thousands of local vacationers and beachcombers. The crescent of the local beach backing the mountain horizon and the frowns of palm trees offers the visitor a spectacular view. The golden sand beach, quite large but not too long is congested with pricey lounges and umbrellas. That day we couldn't swim. Sea conditions didn't allow us. Overall, It was a disappointment. I guess after visiting the best beaches in the World this particular location left me with nothing to desire.
Another amazing beach, clean and safe. The village with its narrow lanes and exsiting little shops id a must and the town square with all the bars and eateries is really good.
With the mountains surrounding the bay and the lighthouse at the tip of the marina, the view from the white sand beach, out to the crystal clear water is amazing!
What an amazing beach. Has won beach of the year in Italy. Such a great place to have a very lazy day. Sun loungers and parasols to rent - so reasonable. Beautifully clear warm water. Perfect for children and adults alike. Had an amazing back massage on the beach - well worth the money. Felt so relaxed after it. Would highly recommend a visit to this beautiful resort
I have looked at the pictures on this site since I returned from Sicily. They look wonderful. However, this beach does not always look this way. We visited in September, 2014. The two days we were there the beach had mounds of blackish seaweed on the shore. The water also was totally clogged with the seaweed. One would have to dredge through the unappealing stuff for quite a while before getting to any clear water. I also do not like beaches that are wall to wall chairs and umbrellas without any open spaces. It is quite a drive to get to San Vito lo Capo. My advice would be to try to find out the condition of the beach beforehand. I would not go there again. There are so many great beaches and areas to enjoy the sea in Sicily. Why gamble on San Vito lo Capo?
We came in mid October and it was a pleasurable day. We drove from Palermo so it was a journey and wasn't really worth the 2 hour journey.Nice soft sand. Lively views and a good shopping area. The beach was quite dirty. There was a considerable amount of seaweed which could have been scooped up and dropped into the sea, which meant the kids had to tread carefully into the water. The water is clear as is most of North Sicily. It's very shallow for a long way out making it good for familiesOne thing about San Vito is it feels more touristy and less authentic. I would return to San Vito but it's not worth more than an hour journey...Massages are great from 5 -15 euro.Overall a nice beach but not Sicilys best
