Sadly when we were in Riga there were no performances in the main opera house although we did get to see an opera in the new auditorium. The opera house is magnificent and if I return to Riga I will definitely make sure that I time it with a visit here to see something in the main opera house.
My husband and I were in Riga and stoppes by the national opera to see if anything was on while we were in town. Giselle was the next day and we paid €14 for our two tickets! They weren't the best seats in the house but it was amazing and so inexpensive. Take the time and go to a show!!!
I visited Riga, saw much of nice places and ended up at Opera House watching opera “Karmen”. Beautiful place with good acustics, classic royal style interior!!!!!
We have been before and have not remembered to write a review. The performance was top rate. Even the kids left impressed!
In 2001, the new annex was completed. Using elements of contemporary architecture, it at the same time evokes the style of the late 19th century and blends perfectly with the original building. Aside from offices and rehearsal stages, the annex also provides additional performance space: The New Hall with 300 seats is an ideal venue for chamber operas, small-scale concerts or lectures.
I saw The Barber of Sevilla and it was amazing, the actors were superb and the Opera itself is a majestic building. During the breaks you can enjoy yourself on cozy bar they have next to the opera room.
The building is wonderful. Dating from the nineteenth century is the proud of the Latvian citizen who often refers about it as the White House. It presents quality Opera as excelent and great ballet productions.
Was not expecting to see a ballet of a top world caliber in this little theater. Fantastic dancers, misic, costumes.Would recommend to everybody visiting
we had a nice experience in the opera.definitely you have to see a performance there.the tickets price is really good, even to get the best place is not that expensive.the performance was excellent.we are really happy that we went there
The Latvian National Opera is centrally located overlooking a lovely manicured park that is situated along the canal, the former moat around old Riga. Even if you are not an opera buff, there is much to enjoy. The gilted interior is spectacular, the wine, coffee and dessert "bars" have been meticulously and beautifully restored, and there is such a mix of ages and dress, that people watching is fun. But of course, the production is what is most valuable, and this is a jewel in Riga's crown. Set design, lighting, costumes, choregraphy are masterful and the singing and acting first class. There is a wide range of prices and subtitles are easily viewed in English. Whether this is your first opera, or hundredth, Latvia's National Opera is worth your time and money. Limited tours of the Opera House are available.
The venue is beautiful- but don't just visit, go and see and performance. The artistic level is very satisfying, tickets are very cheap and they have subtitles.
For 14 euros and a three hour plus performance of Aida you can't go wrongA lovely building which a sumptuous inside though the lobby is somewhat spartanThe opera was good - we could hear and the choreography was fascinatingThere were three intervals which was one too many - still, well worth the effort
The opera house is easy to get to by tram. The interior is so lovely and oldy-worldy. The costumes were lovely and the coffee shop in the lower ground level was just what we wanted pre-performance.
We planned to visit the opera house during our 2 night stay in Riga and ended up seeing both an opera and a ballet performance. Both were reasonably priced and easy to book in person at the box office. The opera house looks good from the outside, situated by some nice gardens on the edge of the old town, but the interior needs to be seen. It's quite stunning. The shows ?? The opera was terrible, the ballet excellent, but both were a memorable experience.
The staff were all miserable (especially the lift attendant who was more concerned with making social arrangements on his phone than operating the lift). The church is bland and the view from the top of the tower is uninspiring. .The ticket price is too high - save your €7 for something more worthwhile.
