J J Torgerson was my great grandmother's cousin (and his father, Torger Hansen, was my g-g-grandfather's brother).
We visited the iron works a few years ago and had great tour of the works. My brother in law Roy Silfven and I had the privilege of playing their 18 hole course.. Walking of course. My great grandfather JJ Torgerson and his father Torger Hanson were gardeners at Nes Iron Works. They came to Wisconsin and settled in Scandinavia, Wi. I have JJ Torgerson's hand written journal started in Norway. It is written in "old hand" Norwegian and appears to be his notes from gardening at Nes as well as on the old homestead in Scandinavia, Wi. Some day we'll get a translation. Bill
This is a nice place to spend a morning or afternoon. The movie explaining the plant’s history was just the right length. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and fluent in English and Norwegian. (Most Norwegians are.) The tour was very informative. I did not know I was interested in the subject before. Some of the area is not wheelchair accessible. I do not know if they have stroller parking. They have several tables for a picnic and a small gift shop. Most of the iron products are from Sweden.
Ypperlig sted å ta med hele familien på tur. Her er noe for alle aldre. Fin natur omkranser stedet her kan en ta det med ro og nyte. Det er en gammel plass med mye historie.
