Since its creation in 1879, the Opera of Monte-Carlo has gained international fame, playing a key role in promoting the most beautiful voices to the rest of Europe. The Opera of Monte-Carlo secured a reputation for artistic innovation. Authors such as Bizet, Franck or Massenet wrote some of their works for the Monéguasque Opera. Regularly, the Opera goes on tours to play works of its repertoire. By the end of the nineteenth century, Charles Garnier was hired to build Monaco's Opera House. The famous architect had gained recognition from his work for the Paris Opera House. The program is not available...
Very classy, attended the opera twice here, very well organized. Impeccable. The seats are very comfortable you could sit hours without any discomfort.
Really love harbours & this one didn't disappoint! Had lunch looking over it - fabulous!Part of the grand prix track runs past there, had great fun walking it!
The rooms are wonderful from a bygone era but the vibe is a bit dead. When I first went there was a very strict dress code, you had to hand over your passport and pay 10 Euros to get in ... this time there was none of that which I think takes away from the place as the top of line. Best part for me was finally being able t change my 500 euro note, got 5 chips bet won, won 100 and chard them back in :) No matter what worth seeing just to feel like James Bond for a few minutes...
Visited for the Jazz festival one evening. A bit different to the seedy dives I normally frequent to watch bands. Nevertheless had a great night in a fabulous setting. A beautiful building worth a visit, especially if you get to see it in use.
I have visited this opulent building on numerous occasions, attending classical opera or concert performances, but also on a less formal ones, like silent movie (The General with Buster Keaton) accompanied by full orchestra of The House or concert by German band playing vegetable instruments. Each occasion different, public different, but charm of Old Lady persestently felt.Magnificent venue, with excellent acoustics and comfortable seats.I can not remember visiting even most reputable opera houses (La Scala,Nice etc.),which are kept to such a high standards.Formal event public is very formal as well, money do not speak, but shouts loudly-this is such a place.Pitty, that Salle Blanche, down in the Casino, which was used as a beautifuL setting for a drink before and/or couple drinks after, has been anected by game tables and lost its past function. But money speaks louder than art....
Magnificent building, like stepping back in time, well worth the experience, I have been to several performances there & never been disappointed, only once walk out due to the Opera being not my choice!
We did not experience the inside of this magnificent building. But if the inside is anything like the outside, it is quite simply stunning, the architecture is unbelievable.
another attraction was to enjoy the ballet, which was performed in the same building that houses the casino.once you step inside you are transported back to another era.the room where the ballet, as well as opera is performed, is faced with gold glitter, with the two royal boxes on either side.the seats we had were unbelievable- FIRST ROW-DEAD CENTER!There were two different ballets, with an intermission between, where refreshments were sold.prior to you going, please check the website for when either the ballet or opera is there-they only have performances a few times a year at this facility.the best way to travel there is either by walking or by taxi-most of the taxi's are Mercedes, all very well kept, with friendly drivers. most of the fares in Monte Carlo are around 10 euro.the prices for these performances are quite reasonable, the Princess of Monaco, funds the fine arts.put this on your list of things to do.
This is a site you have to see in Monaco when you are visiting. Just near the casino, it and the buildings around will give you many opportunities to say WOW!! and take photos!
I am a old rocknrolla, not even a big opera fan, but we go to every production and I love every minute of it! If you have the opportunity, dress UP and GO. The room is stunning and if you want to see the real Monaco society, this is where you will find it. Not really for kids and not for backpackers either !
Some impressive cars are parked over there and the architecture is really nice. I cannot say how is inside the Casino, as you need a certain dress code and I did not had one.
It's a somptuous opera. We got some seat for Don Quichote and it was 30€ each on the 7th row from their website. The only black spot is that you can't take pictures inside, even in the entrance hall, what is a massive shame...
Magnificent! if you like opera in magnificent surroundings, this is your manna from heaven. Enjoy after a visit to the casino and Hotel de Paris
Had a chance to see inside one night! Breathtaking!Very short opera season so in the summer it is usually not possible to see the interior.
