This is a fantastic collection of local historical items and stories. We had a personally guided tour
This museum was a real disappointment. Maribor has a fascinating and intriguing history, but you’d never know from this museum which purports to cover the subject. There is display case after display case on the pre-history, though the stone age and bronze age to the Romans, all very interesting, but thereafter history is covered by assorted topics, a lot of interesting individual objects, but with no effort whatsoever to provide a narrative, to give a basic summary of the major twists sand turns, especially its time within the Austrian-Hungarian Empire and the tumultuous events of the 20th century. The young lady guiding answered questions, but working with a lacklustre product. Pity.
The museum is located in the town castle in the old city centre. It is partly under renovation, so it is not entirely open to the public. Still, it offers a great exhibition that explains the town past to the visitor in an interesting way. The best room in the castle is the castle hall with beautiful frescoes. You should definitely visit the museum!
I visited the castle at the end of 2013 with my girlfriend, Mr Uroš DOKL offered to be our guide arround the castle, at the begining we where a little bit scepicle, but actualy it was the best guided tour of our life. He took the time to show us all the rooms, and explaining to us all the detailes. It was amazing to not just see but understand all that is in front of you!
Entramos, pues nos habían dicho que era bastante interesante, y no nos defraudó. Además coincidimos con una exposición sobre la 1ª Guerra Mundial que era muy completa.
