It is more than a tad disconcerting to see that an American made it all the way over to this part of France only to express "disappointment" upon visiting this site. The more impressive "other monuments to the Great War" were erected by states (Pennsylvania outdid itself in Varennes-sur-Argonne) or the National Geographic Society (a fountain in Cantigny) or by the federal government itself, which includes those memorials and facilities now administered and maintained by the American Battle Monuments Commission. The 42nd Division Memorial is largely the work of a single man -- N.T.Frazer of Alabama and,perhaps, a couple of friends -- whose father fought there. They had to assemble and purchase three separate parcels of land and commission a sculpture in the U.K. to complete this work. They paid for it themselves and it is nothing less than remarkable that they did so. It is now maintained by local French authorities, as best I understand. Sadly, there are nearby places -- near Roncheres, Cierges, Sergy and Courmont -- where Americans suffered thousands upon thousands of casualties in WWI and nothing marks their efforts and sacrifices at all. I just hope people will appreciate this memorial and learn something from it. There should be others like it.

A beautiful and stirring tribute to the Rainbow Division. I had not been to a WW1 battlefield before and this one is now mostly farmland again, devoid of the death and destruction which once plagued the area. It is a shame so many Americans will never see this memorial.

This memorial to the service of the Rainbow Division in both WWI & WWII is disappointing when compared to other monuments to the Great War. The visitor's center in Chateau-Thierry could hardly place it on the map for me.

A fantastic World War I monument that commemorates the courage and devotion of the 42nd Rainbow Division. The monument is a little off the beaten path, but well worth the trip!

Un peu à l'écart de tout...sur une route de campagne...on es saisi par l'émotion lorsqu'on atteint ce monument qui rend hommage à la 42ème Rainbow US. lieu propice au recueillement.

Lieu chargé d'histoire même si il n'y a pas grand chose à voir mais il faut s'imaginer ce qui c'est passé avec les vestiges et les bois aux alentours. A faire pour les passionnés d'histoire et de la grande guerre.

Wel wat afgelegen, doch de rit ernaartoe de moeite waard. Dit kunstwerk is gemaakt door de zoon van een veteraan WO 1 van deze divisie. Getuigenis van bijzonder veel klasse in het uitbeelden van het ellendig bestaan van de frontsoldaat.

Le 12 novembre 2011, c'est à 11 heures qu'au lieu dit, la Ferme de la Croix-Rouge, au sud de la municipalité de Fère-en-Tardenois, localité voisine de Château-Thierry (22 km) et de Soisson (25 km), qu'a eu lieu l'inauguration officielle du monument érigé, il y a peu, en l'honneur de la 42e division d'infanterie "Arc-en-Ciel" (Rainbow) ; corps d'armée constitué des 167e régiment Alabama et 168e Iowa ayant combattu contre la redoutable Ve Armée allemande commandée par le Kronprinz (Prusse). La statue est dédiée à la fraternité qui existe entre les soldats et a été réalisée par le sculpteur anglais James Butler. Le monument à une hauteur totale de plus de trois mètres.La partie en bronze représente un soldat de la Rainbow, la tête inclinée, transportant un camarade mort aux bras ballants.Le monument se trouve sur la RD3, en direction de Le Charmel...Fère-en-Tardenois est située en Picardie et en Champagne.
