If you are interested in Balzac at all, this is an interesting museum to learn more about his work and life. There was a also an art exhibit featuring him as a theme, which I did not care for as much.
This house, beautifully renovated, reveals the impact of Touraine on Balzac ´s creation. A big part of La comedie Humaine was written here, or inspired by people and sceniry of this delicious green area. The guide is excellent.
A beautiful building and a fascinating look into the life of this famous writer. Well worth a visit if you are visiting that area.
Unless you are French, you will be lost in translation. You only get a pamphlet that is very hard to follow through the house. Don't waste your 5 Euros or time going here. The grounds were simple but nice. Least favorite of the Chateaus.
My husband and I have both read Balzac - he much more than I - so we had an interest in this museum. It turned out to be a delight and one of the best value visits made in the Loire Valley. It is €5 to enter and in every room there is a huge amount of information on cards in various languages. We did not feel we missed out because we were not French speakers or readers. As others have pointed out there is always a friendly member of staff to answer any questions. There is also a shop, some tables and chairs outside to enjoy a drink bought at the chateau or for a picnic and the gardens are worth walking around. We passed a very enjoyable leisurely morning here with very few other tourists but judging by the book in the video room it is visited by tourists from all over the world. We were so glad we went.
Review your Balzac and you will enjoy this beautifully curated museum and chateau with the extra gift of a beautiful studio dedicated to Rodin's creation of his famous and famously misunderstood statue of Balzac. Pretty grounds. Not a lot of tourists made it a lovely break from the overcrowded and commercialized chateaus. Nice bookshop.
If you have forgotten most of what you read as a student, this is the place : the chateau where he wrote most of his books has been turned into a museum with lots of pleasantly arranged explanations on the writer, his influences, his life. It is complete with his study, and bed. A very nice young lady guide is on hand to offer additional explanations. Nice bookshop too.
