The innkeeper where we stayed recommend we visit this gem of a medieval town and we were so glad we took his advice. Driving up a small country road, we came upon it--perched on a hill--and the beauty of it was breathtaking. Amazingly, we were able to drive all the way up the small winding street, and there were parking spots near the restaurants and small shops. We did not take the tour of the Chateau. Quite honestly there was so much to see and explore in the pedestrian area that there wasn't time. We enjoyed some crepes at an outside café instead, and just absorbed the ambience of this amazing place. There were very few tourists there besides us. I've attached some pictures showing some of the character and beauty of this little gem.

The museum/chateau worth a visit. A bit of history presented by guides in period costumes. The village has several nice restaurants for lunch (some filled with cycling groups, punching this ticket).Pleasant forest hikes behind the village parking area.We walked over form Sainte Sabine and the ever enlarging view as we approached was neat.

Worth a visit as is being renovated more each year and is an impressive set of buildings in such a pretty village

Didn't get oppty to see but it is worth an hour to stroll this pretty little village and have a coffee. Great views over countryside. Tried to do a walk near parking lot based on posted sign but just ended up walking in woods for 45 minutes. Get better directions or don't bother

The whole town / chateau is worth a visit, it well kept and ideal for tourists. few nice places to eat - all serving good food. The chateau itself is quite small and the visit will only take about 30 mins but its worth a visit just for its charm and views alone

It was a small village, very picturesque and easy to stroll around. There were sufficient places to eat and sights to see. Sadly the castle was closed on the day we visited.

We loved the village, and the chateau was beautiful, although only a small part was available for viewing. There are delightful views from many vantage points in the village, and it did not seem as spoilt with tourist shops as many others we have visited.

We stopped in to see the Chateau de Chateauneuf-en-Auxois after having lunch in the village. Good thing we did as the tour was closed from 12-14:00 so when we finished lunch the doors were opening. This is a smaller Chateau compared to some others we've seen in France and the guided tour was only in French. They do provide a two page laminated self-touring guide in several languages but upon following along with the tour guide, it was clear we were missing out on a lot of information. Cost per person is 5 euros. Not meant to be a slight against the tour itself but I'd estimate that with the laminated guide we were given, we could have completed the tour in under 30 minutes. As an attraction by itself, I'd almost recommend giving it a pass but if you choose to come for lunch and walk around the quaint village, you may be able to make an afternoon of it.The views from the Chateau are fabulous but this may not be worth the detour unless you really really love history.

We visited this castle on our barge trip. We went to the town several times and one time we went to visit the Chateau itself. It is a nice tour of a medeival castle. Our guide explained the history and we enjoyed the castle itself. If you every near this area, stop and see this It is certainly a nice visit.

Beautiful chateau we have passed many times on the A6. Spectacular views from the turrets. cold, misty day, try l'Auberge du Marronnier for a warm welcome and café.

the view on approach is aweinspiring but the view form the Chateau is just as good. We were there on a bright sunny day and could see for kilometres. The Chateau is an excellent attraction for the local area and well worth visiting.

Fascinating and really beautifully presented castle - restored sensitively and interesting historical context.

This castle is clearly on view from the motorway to because, so my wife and I decided to detour for a look. Pretty village. The chateau is being restored to its previous glory. Still worth a visit and to take in the views.

Accessible to... and with a commanding view over ... the motorway. A wonderful small castle in very good shape. It is the perfect illustration of how a castle worked in the middle ages -- as opposed to a fine home. Lovely and very accessible little village with some nice places to eat. Not on many must do lists... but recommend for the setting alone.

The castle is located in a really cute village. It takes less than an hour to visit the place. Quite nice to do with young children. Pretty place to walk around.
