staff and information excellent. Location took a bit of spotting. Bus tour particularly good and information about concerts, travel and out of town options very helpful

TuxedoJunction_10

Very helpful staff although they were not aware that Lille had a racecourse - the purpose of our visit.

All you need from a tourist info centre. But top ten trip advisor is really useful. Book direct with the company for the 2CV

Staff were very helpful and well-informed. They were happy to complement my limited French with very good English.

26 December ... Sunshine ... Lovely day ... 1 question? Where can we go?We stayed by the French border in Belgium, so cross the border and you're in Lille (Rijsel), it takes only a half hour by train from Kortrijk to Lille.Arrived in the station of Lille Flandres, it seemed busy ... walking trough some busy streets and yes ... the right spot! A big wheel attracted a lot of tourists. We walked a bit further and arrived at the Christmas market on Place Rihour. Also the tourist office is there. We collected a city map and went for a "Glu-wine" on that market, lovely stuff, hahaWe wanted walk in and discover the old part of the city. It's actually a quite romantic town with plenty of small lovely restaurants, big and small shops, fashion shops with big names. Historic buildings and a wonderful Cathedral, Notre Dame de la Treille. Between the station of Lille Flandres and the station of Lille Europe is a big shopping center, Euralille. So, whater you want, Lille has it. The weather was on our side, so it was an absolute lovely day ... Lille ... I Love Lille ...

Had read that Lille had one of the best Christmas markets in Europe so planned a Christmas trip around that - unfortunately what we found was a sad, disappointing and slightly depressing, small gathering of sheds in a car park... No Christmas music, same-old stalls, not much food and mulled wine/cider and absolutely no atmosphere. Am sure there would be better markets to visit than Lille, would definitely not recommend. Went on the Ferris wheel in the next square which was nice. Not much else to do so would recommend.

went on a national holidays trip to lille christmas shopping .it was a long trek to get there , train from hartlepool to middelsbrough then coach to hull then boarding then the loch which was interesting with inch to spare on each side of the ferry.trip on ferry ok just very expensive.got to zebbrugge ok 2hours late eventually set of to this lille market. once we got to lille the coach driver was not exactly sure where this market was but got us in the general direction eventually found this lille market what a disapointment stockton market was bigger and there was no christmas spirit had a look at some of the other shops all designer shops to expensive trip was not worth the while as we only got 4 hours in lille and was to affraid to wonder to far as if you never made it an time to coach you was stranded as he could not wait .i have come to the conclusion that in eu and some other countries markets are actually shops not stalls as we know them. but it was at least 3 days away from home.

Great place to visit as only an hour from the eurotunnel. Xmas market good quality stalls, but quite small, however best Ferris wheel I have ever seen, in my opinion better than the London Eye as it has open carriages. Good shopping and restaurants nearby

Went last weekend and although Lille was a lovely city, the market was disappointing since I had read it was one of the best in Europe. It was in fact quite small and did not really inspire a Christmas feeling - Simply Red -Money too tight to mention was playing, instead of Xmas songs! But city was really nice and lots going on, great bars and places to eat but do not expect much from the market

Knowing nothing about the city and alone, a visit to the tourist office provided a great start. Bought a 48hr pass which included the bus tour followed by an excellent walking tour in the old town. The staff were quick and efficient at organizing this all for me, working out how much time I had and the best value pass for me. I couldn't use all the tokens provided and didn't make huge use of the transport as mainly in the centre but had a good trip out to Roubaix, going there on the metro and back on the tram. Think it was good value overall and an easy and a painless way to arrange things

Tucked away in a converted church is the Tourist Office. It's worth a visit - even if you don't want any info.Lots' of brochures and information.

Found the bus tour a useful introduction to the city but the walk was superb. The leader was charming, well informed and full of fun. I took the tour in French which suited me but cannot therefore vouch for the english version. We spent well over two hours visiting the old town and all of the party, all ages, happily stayed the course. I was able later to retrace my steps with my husband who had been working and who would otherwise have missed much of the charm and interest of the city

Spent one night/two days in Lille this week - Dec 2/3 2014 on the basis that Lille had a Christmas Market worth visiting. With an hours trip on Eurostar and a lovely B&B booked overnight, the Xmas fare/market was a complete let down. In simple I have never been to a more sad sight. No food stalls of any quality and lots of stalls selling tat ! After 10 mins, a horrid Gluh wein we left to discover the rest of Lille which was far more worthwhile and entertaining. The side roads in and around Vieux Lille were wonderful with great shops and cafes. There is a Ferris wheel and other attractions in nearby squares designed for kids and at night the whole place looks lovely lit up but it is a con to get travellers here based on a market that doesn't exist. Go to Lille by all means, walk the streets and discover great places/restaurants and cafes but don't think a Xmas enchantment awaits you because it doesn't.

We found each of our visits to the tourist office very helpful and on each occasion the staff were very helpful. We collected brochures of interest, were provided with maps of both the city and the local area, booked the City Tour, we're assisted with the booking of a taxi for our departure and also put in touch with Greg Celerse for our trip to Ypres, the surrounding areas and the Menin GTe ceremony.

W.e had booked a WW1 tour with the office for their Saturday English-speaker; but no-one else had so they cancelled it. Luckily we were hooked up with Gregory Celerse who works there and he took us on a private tour on Sunday to several of the Cemeteries (of which there are over 150 locally) plus Ypres and the Menin Gate.He was well informed, spoke good English, drove us where we wanted, and is a keen American Football fan - what more could one ask!
