This arena is similar to the Coloseum in Rome but on a much smaller, better preserved scale> It is is definitely worth a visit. Conveniently located in Provence, it is an easy drive from either Les Baux or Aix en Provence. We really found the audio guide added a lot to our enjoyment of the grounds and exploring the various areas. They still have concerts that are held there and I can only imagine how amazing it would be to experience one!

This ancient Roman theater is completely intact and spectacles are held here still! When you walk around the seats and gaze at the stage, you can imagine Roman actors being on that stage in antiquity. The halls in the theater are intact and you fell the same experience as Romans did. Thanks to the French for not destroying this or altering it during the ages, so we can marvel at it today. Orange is a beautiful sunny town.

Fortuitously in Orange on 12 June when a free concert was held in the Théâtre Antique. I believe you would normally have to pay to enter. It was very pleasant to sit in the amphitheatre and sing along to the music in the warm evening. Many thanks to the Ville d'Orange! Climbed up the hill behind the Theatre next day to enjoy the view and to see the arena in daylight from a different angle. Well worth the climb!

Very well preserved and large ancient theatre in the heart of Orange. There is an informative short film to view before you start your exploration. It must be amazing to come to a performance here, but we enjoyed wandering about. The old wall is huge and climbing up the seating area gives some great views. Some of the "rooms" off the tunnels featured interesting audio/visual presentations on various aspects of the theatre's history. There is a partial excavation of an old temple also on the site. Unfortunately for us the infamous "Mistral" came up that afternoon and it was so strong and so cold that exploring the theatre further became difficult.The entrance fee included a visit to the town museum just across the road. We were there on a Sunday so the town of Orange itself was very very quiet and little was open.

A very well preserved theater of impressive magnitude and engineering especially when looking from the furthest rows.Logistics are a little more challenging when handling a baby in a push-chair, but well worth the effort.

Visited in winter, so it was really quiet and easy to get around. The late afternoon light fell on the theatre wall and was stunning to see and wonderful to imagine performances 2000 years ago!

iit was A trip through the history. The best atraction in orange. Very organized wilth a guide tour . Don't forget to visit the museum next to the theatre.

Sit on the steps of the theatre and let your imagination fly. What performances took place, what did audiences experience over the centuries? Then wander around, feel the textures of the ancient stone, see the patterns of the lichen on the rock.

this is an interesting old coliseum in the epicenter of Orange. Few left like it in the world. Tickets at 9.50 Euros seem high as there is not a lot of explanation around anything but I would still recommend it.

This is a must for anyone interested in history, especially Roman history. The audio guide, provided as part of the entry fee, is excellent in providing a wealth of information on what it is you're seeing and in helping imagine what it must have been like when it was in use by the Romans. If you're anywhere in the area this is time well spent.

Our B & B owner suggested we make a visit; so glad we did! It's HUGE!!! The Audioguide proved invaluable. We arrived late in the afternoon so our visit was a bit rushed but what we saw was was well worth the visit. It really brings those history books alive!

Its collosal architecture and excellent preservation. One three such theaters left in the world. My next trip to it will be to attend one of the events which are held there every year.

This was quite a surprise to us as we thought there was an only an arena in Orange and when we went inside there is the 37m high theatre wall - quite a stunning site and still standing after all this time. There is a guide (mine was in English) which gives a little more background info, so worth having. You can take your time and wander round. Some good views across the town as well. The museum across the road is included in the price but if you don't have time for this, don't worry, it is quite a mixture of items, not all connected with the theatre itself.

Amphiteatre in Orange is amongst the biggest of its kind out of Italy, originally built to host up to 10k visitors! It is truly a majestic construction and very well maintaned. No wonder why...We regret we could not have stayed in Orange for a bit too longer to see the evening theater performance. I imagine it must be beautiful and so would love to visit this place again in the future.
