Excellent local amenity. Beaches, water, walks. Picturesque. Free parking and plenty of it. Only lacks a café out of season.
This was our second visit to this part of France. We love this lake beach and this year decided to have a go on the Inflatables. It's a good 20 minute walk round the lake to get to them but worth it. Try and go early as it's gets busy. In the summer it opens at 11 am. €7 for one hour was good value and if you want to stay longer it's €10 for 2 hours. It's hard work climbing up some of the inflatables so a bit of strength is needed. Great fun though! Free parking and ample facilities.
About 25 minutes taxi from city centre - buses also available (except Sundays). Relaxed family friendly location. Lots of kids entertainment available - nice walk about perimeter of the lake (circa 5km). Only annoyance was the loud PA system in main beach area but only minor issue
Having walked around the old and new town of Carcassonne, we jumped on a bus (€2 euro return!) on a warm sunny Saturday. Whilst the schools had only just returned that week, we couldn't believe how quiet it was.We walked round the lake, which took just over an hour, and marvelled at the beautiful views along with the activities that can be enjoyed by all ages;Zip wiring, kayaking, pedalos, and other water based games. There is also a beach which is a great place to relax and you can also cool off with a swim in the lake. The only negative was that the only food available was from a large mobile van and whilst they served a great array of foods, some people may want to organise themselves and take sandwiches and drinks in a cooler bag. However overall it was a great day out.
So good we went to Lac de la Cavayere twice whilst we were staying in Carcassonne. There was plenty of parking available, but make sure you dont get there to late as it can get filled up very quickly. We opted for the shingle beach as it was less crowded and near to the beach cafe. While we were we went on a pedalo and enjoyed going around the lake.Definitely not a place to be missed.
We have been coming down to this part of Southern France for the past two years staying for long period of times.Despite reading about lakes and the rivers in Languedoc region never noticed this lake! Went to pick a friend from the Carcassonne Airport and the plan was to see the Chateaux Lastours but rained in the morning and that plan was sadly abandoned. By time we left the Carcassonne Airport Sun started shining so we decided to wander off to nearby Trebes for lunch on the Canal du Midi somewhere which we did. On return to our place just saw a sing for Carcassonne Plage and curiosity got the better of us and ther it was a beautiful lake with the the parking and our disbelief . On one side good for a swim on the other side ,which we didn't have time to explore, some fun ang game park on the lake with boat hire it seemed etc. The lake has even got a sandy beach a mobile cafe near the car park which filled up in no time after the Sun showing up ! Nice and safe and plenty of shaded areas amongst the trees can't go wrong!
We loved it here and spent many happy hours. There are lots of things to do, swim in the lake, take part in the aqua viva assault course, mini golf, pedalo hire, sunbathing, walking or cycling. It really has something for everyone. Highly recommend
Lac Cavayere, known locally as Carcassonne Plage. Its a large lake surrounded by woodland, with pathways, picnic areas, beach & outdoor activities. A gem of a find as no entrance fee only for water activities. Parking free. Swimming is free + life guard, food available at lakeside stalls, hotdogs, crepes, ice cream etc. Water course inflatable activities were 10 euro for 2hrs or 7 euro each for 1hr. Get there for 1pm when it opens closes about 6 and getting very busy when we left. Thought our boys would get out after an hour but they stayed in for the full two hrs. Well worth a visit..
Three beaches (1 golden sand, 2 pebble), all guarded by a bunch of very vigilent lifeguards. Picnic tables, walks, swimming, water park, cafe, various peddle type boats, beach volley ball, soccer, archery, and an amazing zip lining course. Zip lining costs €16 per adult (€14 per child), and takes approx. two and a half hours to complete. It is fairly challenging, and you would need a reasonable level of fitness and stamina to complete. However, you can ramble around under the trees in advance, and get a very good idea of what is involved before commiting. It is a great group / family activity, and you will come away with a real sense of achievement. Trips begin at specific times, so check it out in advance. If you opt for a walk instead, the full round of the lake takes roughly one hour, and offers dappled shade and great views. There is a lakeside cafe where cold drinks, beer etc., together with hot dogs, sandwiches, etc are all available.Very clean location, and the toilets are the only area, considerably below par (but with the visitor numbers you get here, that may be difficult to control.
Beautiful lake above Carcassonne. Plenty of parking, some in the shade. Quite a walk down (and so back uphill too!!) but worth it. There is a choice of beaches, stones and sand. The area of surveillance is well marked for children. The sand is beautiful and clean as is the water. In the summer there is a floating inflatable park to tire out the kids. It is also possible to walk around the lake but do take water and wear a hat. It will take about an hour. There are also pedallos and a small cafe. We always take our own picnic. Above the lake in the trees are picnic benches and there is also a parc de loisir for volleyball etc. Just a very beautiful place
We stayed near the lake to visited it a few times..plenty of parking..toilets etc...a few beaches.we wen to the stoney one with the grass verges which was very pleasant and peaceful.thenwater is clear and there are lots of fish swimming around.a nice place to spent a morning/ afternoon..
Caught the No 1 bus - only cost 1 euro each way. Which is a good way to see the country side. Lac de la Cavayere was a delight. We walked round the whole lake, it was very peaceful, only a few joggers and dog walkers about. Would recommend take picnic as we were there in May and facilities were closed. However, overall, well worth a visit.
Lac de la Cavayere has it all. Great walks around the lake, activities for children, climbing the tree-tops, swimming, playing or just relaxing in the sun
visit this place quite often for a walk around the lake, great for swimming as there are good lake side beaches.
We have spent many wonderful days at the Lac, even travelling there by bus before we got a car. It is close to Carcassonne. It is a bit of a trek from the car park but our mist recent visits thoroughly enjoyed the facilities set up by the City Council. There was a library ( all in French) and a coffee shop with ice cream and drinks too.
