Whole place gorgeous. Architectural masterpiece. We hired a tablet with earphones which was a personal virtual tour. The Phantom of the Opera box is great to see too. Lots of photo opportunities, some might think a little over the top but I loved it
The building itself gorgeous, both interior and exterior, the sound acho was extremely good. It was pitty there was no performance when we visited.
If you're into Baroque opera, there are few better places to see it than the Royal Opera at Versailles, simply because there are not all that many Baroque theatres of such outstanding beauty. This is the third season we've been, and it has always been an unforgettable experience for the music, the productions and the atmosphere. The theatre, which seems large, is actually designed on an intimate scale so that you can see and hear well wherever you sit. The Royal Opera has a large and varied program of operas and concerts throughout most of the year. The RER runs late enough so that you can get back to Paris after the performance without difficulty. The online booking is very efficient. The singers, musicians, dancers (there's always some ballet in these operas) are all top-flight. A really unique experience.
The structure is beautiful from both inside and outside. Taking the tour was great. It would be be good to see some performance, but there was none during the time we visited. But still an amazing place to visit.
We went there for a Rameau opera. It was a very special experience: the opera is beautiful, the acoustic is perfect, the room is small enough that everyone has a good view of the scene and musicians... It's like going back in time. The music was great and perfectly suited for this scene. I highly recommend it, a very special treat.
Just a small walk away for the Hotel, great atmosphere. Stay at the Trianon Palace hotel and have a great weekend break.
I took a tour to see the opera house after it closed to the public. It's worth it, small group, not to short, not to long. It's a must see in Paris.
We were fortunate to see this while doing a morning guided tour of the private apartments and the Opera house,(which you book on the same day). Would have loved to see a performance here but only used infrequently and was having some renovations done at the time.
What an opportunity - closing night of Persee at the Opera Royale de Versailles. Only ever performed once before - for Marie Antoinette on her wedding day. I mean, REALLY. A friend of mine was in the show - put on by opera atelier of Toronto. I sat in the first seat next to the stage. UNREAL. A night I will never forget for the rest of my life.
This is a great afternoon in Paris. Fantastic building and would love to come back and se an opera here.
We visited this beautiful opera house as part of a behind the scenes Versailles tour. It is in beautiful shape with much of the guilt and fixtures restored. The size of the theatre is impressive considering the time period it was constructed. Another example of the decadent french monarchy pre-revolution.
Touring the Opera is part of a guided tour of Versailles. We were told either the Chapel or the Opera, depending on performances in the Opera House. Luckily we were able to view the Opera House as you can see some of the Chapel during the general tour but you cannot see the Opera House during the general tour. The area is beautiful and the curtain with the royal crest is amazing to see.
We have attended performances of operas at this 18th century jewel of a theatre in the Château de Versailles on several occasions. The decor and intimate atmosphere complement the performances of Baroque works which are among the most original and amusing that we have ever seen.
Versailles opulent as ever and the music during the Grandes Eaux really enhances the experience, but queuing a problem. If like us you don't come with tickets, then as soon as you get inside, leave one person in the queue, if possible, and go and find the automatic ticket machines located near the loos. We did this and saved ourselves the last few metres of the queue, but the machines are poorly signposted and not available outside the building. Big disappointment for me was not being able to see the Royal Opera. I should have read Tripadvisor more closely and noted that you can only see it as part of a guided tour.
Like being inside a huge golden glowing jewel box. A fabulous theatre, easily worth taking a guided tour of the Kings' private apartments just to see this at the end.
