It makes for a chilled out stroll and there are some pretty buildings, some with some historic or religious importance. But it's very quiet with many places not opening until just before lunch time, and there weren't nearly enough tempting Jewish bakeries and eateries for my liking. It is quite charming but if you're only in Paris for a short few days I wouldn't put the Marais at the top of the hit list.
This was so cool, it is a mix of different people, I believe that here you can see the real Parisians. Beautiful architecture, you can walk for hours and shop if you want, grab something quick to eat, but if you want to get the best of the area, we suggest that you take a tour guide, we went with Chris from City Free Tour company and he told us all about the history of this amazing area!
And to think that a couple of decades ago, one could have bought an apartment there for a song...Le Marais, the 3rd arondissement, is the old Paris in a modern surroundings. Most of the buildings are old, dating to a few centuries ago. there was even a medieval cloister open to the public along the Rue des Archives.Now that it has become a tourist attraction, the cafes and stores have become a bit pricey and crowded, but you can still enjoy sitting among those ancient buildings sipping a cappuccino and munching a croissant.For the shopping, visit the nearby Rue Saint-Antoine and don't forget to visit the Place des Vosges and a beautiful and cheap eye-glass frame shop on Rue de Birague.Enjoy!
We stayed near the Place des Vosges and the Place de la Bastille in the Marais. We walked from here to the area around the Notre Dame. We felt safe and totally enjoyed this area.
Originally the Jewish ghetto filled with history. Get an architect's guide to walk around and spot all the old beautiful buildings.
We came Sunday afternoon, atmosphere, buildings, streets were super lovely.Some of the shops were open here although in general in Paris shops are closed.In this neighborhood it's must thing to do, eat falafel but good luck with the lines... They can reach up do hundreds of meters.... Don't worry though, here is lots patisseries & delicates shops like everywhere in Paris. Incredible & lovely city it is.
