A true castle with proper battlements and towers. There is an interesting display with ancient tapistries on display, and a good audion pesentation in multi languages.

One of the largest medieval castle of France. Even if the upper part of the towers has been pulled down in the past centuries, the tour is still extremely impressive. Inside the recently renovated Logis Royal and the chapel show a good example of 15th century life. But the must is still the Apocalyse Tapestry (late 14 th century) which tells the story of the book of Revelation.Remporary exhibition may complete yout tour;requested time to visit between 90 minutes and 2 hours

This was a really cool castle and the Apocalypse Tapestry was just stunning - something that I learned about in Art History, but was great to see up close!

The impressive look of the castle, with it's 17 towers , the oldest and largest collection of medieval tapestries in the world - the 14th century "Apocalypse Tapestry" , the marvelous "sight-seeing" on the top of the towers makes you feel there were not enough the 3 hours visit.

Large old castle with plenty of parking in the immediate area. You can walk along the parapets almost completely around this castle. The best part is the Apocalypse Tapestry woven in 1373 and the drawbridge to get inside. You can take photos of the tapestry, but no flash. There is a small garden area, and a few buildings you can tour. Worth the stop if you are looking for something to do in the city.

First and foremost, rent the audio tour. This is a very long visit so be prepare. You will have an extensive visit of the castle. This is mostly an outdoor visit with the exception of the Apocalypse Tapestry. You will have fantastic views of the city of Angers.

Very impressive castle. Fully restored to how it was in earlier centuries. There is certainly enough here to spend a couple of hours exploring the various rooms and ramparts.

Imagine an old castle with huge walls and nice towers right in the middle of a city, on the river bank. You can visit it, climb the towers, walk in the gardens, it is just great!

A massive medieval castle, particularly impressive from the outside with its high walls and 16 towers. The story behind it – involving Blanche of Castille as regent for Louis IX – is unfortunately more interesting than the grounds and buildings inside the walls, although the gardens are attractive and there is an informative audio guide. The walk along the ramparts of the walls gives nice view of the inside grounds and the city of Angers. Best on the inside is the exhibit of the Apocalypse Tapestries, in a modern building within the castle grounds, a truly great work of art which alone are worth the visit.

I'd wanted to see the tapestries for years and wasn't disappointed. 100-odd tapestries beautifully displayed and explained, extraordinary depiction of one of the iconic elements in medieval culture complete with the W**** of Babylon (who didn't seem to be having an especially good time), a self-satisfied Beast of the Sea preening in front of admirers, and all set in an accurate depiction of fourteenth-century Anjou complete with vine trellises. The café in the castle serves excellent food although the system is a bit arcane: you choose a set number of dishes and order drinks separately from an overworked but nice waitress. Great even on a wet day.

The tapestry is amazing. You definitely have to walk on the ramparts and enjoy the view. And they do even have a garden here. Great day out.

I lived in Angers for some months and I must say that it's a really nice castle, I enjoyed every bit of it and the most interesting part must be the Apocalypse Tapestry and the history behind it.

The Castle is fun to explore. The Tapestry is absolutely amazing. Suggest you watch the video before you see the tapestry; you'll understand it's meaning better since the self-guided tour is in French.

If you don't have a lot of time to spend exploring the castle, then head straight to the Tapestry. The Tapestry is amazing and truly worth the visit. The Castle is much better than some of the others we visited. Once again, not much on the interior but you can get some great views of the city by walking around the exterior of the castle. If you have time, walk into town and stop in to view the Cathedral.

The Doomsday Tapestry is awe inspiring. Take the audio tour and take your time to view the intricate work.
