What a fantastic zoo! I was amazed! It's a bit pricey, but definitely well worth the money as it's an all day (and longer) experience! The zoo is in a gorgeous setting with access for all abilities. There are various shows throughout the day, including a talk about and feeding if the polar bear (who I fell in love with!) and a sea lion show which was great. The polar bear has a glass fronted tank within his area so you can stand right next to him whilst he is swimming around. You're practically face to face with him sometimes! The zoo also offers lodge stays, which are small cabins within the animal enclosures! Very interesting to have a polar bear watching you sleep! The food and drink options are typical of any attraction and are priced for a captive audience, however, there are many picnic areas around. It was early September when we went and wasn't in the slightest bit busy with plenty of seating areas for all. I can imagine that it does get busy in the prime holiday seasons though. Well worth the visit, and will be going back again.
The visit to the zoo at La Flèche was brilliant, well worth the entrance fee of 20:50 euros for an adult. The shows were very, very good. I would suggest that visitors take a picnic as with similar attractions food and snacks are expensive. The huge area took us all day to get round and the animals were in excellent condition. A MUST visit is the polar bear show as you can actually see him/her swimming and stand in front of the glass pool. Once my grandson had got over the shock of being so close to this huge animal he loved it. I'm sure it was an experience he'll never forget. Will definitely be visiting Zoo la Flèche again.
We stayed here in August, we had paid and booked beforehand, we had added this as well as a stop over a Disney. We stayed here 2 nights, im glad we did as there is a lot to see, and one day would have been a rush. When we arrived we were given from reception a code for a closer private car park, we bought in our luggage to the shop/reception and paid a deposit of 200 euros, we were told to meet up by the lodge entrance later in the afternoon, this gave us time to explore. The zoo has Polar bears, seals, lion family with 3 cubs, tigers, elephants and lots of other animals, we also thought it was a shame that the girrafes couldn't stretch their legs and have a run, but in fairness all the animals are in top condition with excellent enclosures. The lodge was beautiful, it was wooden and first class inside with an optional outdoor shower from a watering can (clean hot water) ! The children loved this, we stayed with the wolves, and they were as interested in us, as we them. We were left food in the fridge, with drinks, orange juice, water , choc, and a bottle of wine :-) the food was very good, and we sat under a lovely seated outdoor area eating our food whilst watching the wolves. In the morning you are delivered a basket of the tastiest croissants, pain au chocolate etc, etc....you will definately not go hungry. You collect the basket hanging from a hook outside your lodge. eating in the restaurants can be a bit of a chore as they open at 12 and the entire park seems to queue! So enjoy the peace.I would most definately recommend staying in this lodge, we saw the monkey lodges they looked fun too, and tree will soon be a polar bear experience. If you have booked this, or considering it, you wont be dissapointed, it is the most amazing place, and hearing the wolves occasionally howl and seals chatting at night is the most wonderful thing.
This was a super destination for all of our family group from my 5 year old daughter to my 76 year old mum! Easy to walk round, lots to see, and a very pleasant environment.
This is a very interesting zoo to visit but to really appreciate it you need to think of a whole day visit because they have different activities going on from about 10.30 am to 18.00/ 19.00 depending on the time of year. There are a large number of feeding activities, handling, and bird of prey displays. When you get there buy a map as the internal directions are quite confusing. The cafe and restaurants ( some self service) don't open till 12.00 and then there is a rush, so plan to be there early... and look at the menus to ensure that you know what you want and can order quickly as there is always a queue pressing behind you. There are lots of places where you can take photos but you need to keep walking round enclosures to get the best shots. There are glass fronted areas for penguins, otters, sea lions and polar bears so that you can be within inches of them, and other "dens" caves and glass walls to get you very close to the panthers, tigers etc.The children loved it !
The following is written by my 11 year old daughter, inspired by this zoo to write her first ever review! It was different to any zoo that we've ever been to, lots of trees and shrubs. I really did enjoy this day out in the zoo! It was amazing the only thing I was ashamed of was the giraffe didn't have much space to run around but it was still the best zoo ever! Well worth the try. The best thing in the zoo was the sea lions their show was blooming AMAZING!!!! I would really go there again! It really entertained my little cousin through out the day. I really wanted to stay in the lodges to watch the animals when I passed one of the lodges near the lemurs, I was like OMG! If your staying in La fleche you must go to the BEST ZOO EVER!!!
In my opinion this is the worst sort of zoo imaginable. The animals seemed unhappy and the enclosures seemed to be too small. In particular the giraffes were in an sandy enclosure with no stimulus at all, the elephants' enclosure had a lot of fenced off parts and the wallabys appeared to have little room to run around in.The zoo claims that it has tried to recreate natural habitat but I have never seen otters and dolphins in what looked looked like tiled swimming pools and the polar bear enclosure had a pebble path in it.To add to the "atmosphere" piped music was played at various parts. If you want to go to a good zoo - try the zoo at Doué-la-Fontaine!
Check out the private lodges truly amazing, here you can sleep beside the animals OMG !! Great value for a private lodge where you sleep inside the Zoo. Cheaper than Euro Disney
Great variety of animals in natural-like habitats. The visitor walking areas even felt like you were in the jungle. This zoo is large and clean with lots of eating venues and bathrooms facilities. I especially enjoyed the white tigers, white lions, and white wolves. I was able to get up-close photos of many animals. Ticket price was reasonable for the quality of this zoo.
Great day out... amazing array of animals, you almost need 2 days to see them all and give them all the attention they deserve. I know people have reported about the wobbly paving, BUT REALLY?.... It is set in a wooded area, it makes it all the more real and rustic.. It is all BEAUTIFULLY laid out and looked after. 10/10. All the animals had lovely enclosures.. (maybe the giraffes not so good) ... For a zoo... absolutely brilliant... (you are NOT on safari in Africa!!)..... I fully recommend for a day out, with or without children.
Very compact with some wonderful animals, many are real characters. We all loved the polar bear. It was so easy to walk around and was very small child friendly.
This zoo is so well laid out the animals are happy with their inviroment. It is clean and has places to eat and prices are good.It does get busy make sure you get to see the polar bears such a big hit with the children also the penguins and bears.
This is one of the best zoo's I've been to in Europe, has all the must have animals, plus quite a few more. The layout is very nice with the animals spread out through leafy pathways. All the enclosures are nicely done, and only the polar bear looks bored, and his is one of the better ones. Only real complaint is prices, both getting in - €19.50 for an adult, and once you're in a coke will set you back €3. Bring supplies and its not a bad price for a whole day's entertainment.
We enjoyed our visit ti this zoo. There is a wide variety of animals in spacious enclosures, with good cover and shade. Most of the animals we had seen before in other collections , but not the fishing cats or giant anteater. The zoo takes part in breeding programmes for the conservation of endangered species. The display by falconers of birds of prey and also, unusually, storks was well executed and interesting. Children seemed to love it.The only downside is that the entrance fee is quite expensive.
What a lovely zoo, more like a big park with natural surroundings and animals looking well fed and happy. The otters was our favourite display, but closely followed by the birds who flew over our heads... great family day out.
