In order to go from real 'down town' to the upper city this is an experience hard to forget. On the higher side you have a spledid view on the coast, the sea and the surrounding. You can take a walk or have a drink. Downtown you find the beach, narrow streets, pubs, bars an souvenir shops. But enjoy the free of charge train thatbrings you up and down.
The funicular ride is free and you can't beat the view. We parked down at the harbour of Treport and really enjoyed walking around the town. There is some interesting history to the town and explanatory plaques at the walk they offer from the cathedral. The cliffs that the funiculat leads to have historical significance from WW2 since the German military used this spot for huge guns to repel allied troops from the coast.
Parking available outside and inside at Funiculaire. It costs 2.50 euro. Perfect view on the port/sea and 'falaise'.
Treport is a nice town with an harbour and a beach. Great for a short stop on the way south. If you follow the signs parking funicular you end up on top of the cliff. There is an underground parking for 2.5 euro per day. The funicular takes you down to the beach. Tip: there are two in the middle for one line, so shorter waiting. The view is stunning.
It's a nice experience but Treport in itself is not so nice, it's a little creepy. If it's on your way go for it.
Good fun and a good view from the top with a good cafe, bar area all clean and tidy, you get a great view of Le Tréport and it also gives you access to the cliff walk westwards to cries sur mer which is a little alcoves beach area with shop and eatery.
What an amazing find. Having limited mobility, I was delighted to be able to visit the cliff top to see the view, and the whole thing was FREE!
Very good and free. That would not happen in the uk! Wonderful view from the top!easy even on public holiday.
After walking up 365 steps, this was a lovely way of getting back down the mountain. And the best part was that it was free! You would definitely have to pay for something like this in the uk.
We walked up the 365 steps to get to the top so felt like we deserved the ride back down. Really enjoyable. Went up & down again as kids wanted to and it was free!
We saw the brochure & thought we'd give it a go. Headed to car park at top of cliffs (€2.50 per day), checked out the fantastic views over beach, town & harbour & were then shocked to find it was free. Went down, enjoyed a walk along the stony beach, out to lighthouse & around the town. Then went back to top to the cafe for lunch which was very cheap & actually really good. Cheapest yet one of the most fun days out of our holiday.
We couldn't believe this was free - on the other side of the Channel you'd be charged to use this funicular railway to get down to the town from the car parks on the top of the cliffs!
Stayed in Le Treport for a week and used Le Funiculaire most days just to enjoy the view over the surrounding area.
It is definitely worth the trip either by car to the top of the cliffs. There is a parking which was free of charge when we were there (weekdays) and the view over the surrounding area and over the village is very nice and certainly worthe the trip by car - or by funiculaire if you have no car available.
Great little attraction to this seaside town and amazing that it is FREE. It was raining when we visited and a charge would have put us off but as it was free we were able to go to the top and briefly enjoy the views.
