Nice walk aroud a former military place , flowers greenhouses (lovely orchids).Ideally situated to discover le havre bay, really worth seeing
A very interesting place to visit during all seasons. I was particularly impressed by the labelling as this allowed a plants person to visualise what nature's canvas and clever planting would provide throughout the year . Even in November we found colour and form , so much to interest us . Architecture and planning , skilful planting and engaging vistas plus rolling hills and distant views which were quite Salvatore Dahli , silhouetted darkly against the grey blue sky in certain lights . Bright red berries and multi coloured leaves , stark naked branches displaying an array of fascinating mottled bark in tones of silvered greens with scattered coatings of acid yellow lichen or a variety of autumnal golden browns and ochre . Thoroughly enjoyed climbing up and down the hillside investigating the hidden curiosities all well documented within the literature available to the visiting public or within the mountings as one enters the gardens . Wonderful visit with the grandchildren ! Thank you Les Jardins Suspendus !
Interesting gardens and free entry, in an old Napoleonic fort on a hill overlooking the city, great views over Le Havre. Pay a euro for the hot house, but we didn't bother. We were getting the ferry to England in the evening so spent about a hour here in the morning before hitting the beach. Would not purposely go out of my way to visit, but it was an hour well spent.
What a gem! The gardens are very well done and maintained. Needs a couple of hours for a nice visit.
We visited this garden as the name made us curious - certainly this was the intent of the planner! This garden was built directly into an old fortress which is overlooking the city of Le Havre. Walking the round on the edge of the fort gives beautiful views of the gardens as well as of the city. The former storage halls (arcades) offer space for a small coffee, exhibitions and also the administration.Everything was well kept and maintained! This is a small gem in the city and offers nice viewpoints over the city.Well worth the visit - which is free!
There were not many flowers when we visited however, we enjoyed the open space, fresh air, walled garden and views from the top of the fortress. The little cafe on site was a pleasure to visit with tea pots and little nic-narks for sale.
Someone recommended that we should visit the gardens, but it was nothing special really. Perhaps the flowers hadn't bloomed yet because it was a bit cold the weeks prior to our visit, so it might be better to visit when it's warmer.
Far from usual Le Havre rush, reachable with own transport only, it's one of best places in the town. Old fortress converted into a botanical marvel. A lovely walk takes you to the ramparts with some fantastic views over Le Havre and it's bay, with flowering gardens set up (or being set up) on every bastion of fortress. This part is free of charge. In the courtyard there's a complex of greenhouses with some tropical plants - this part is available with ticket only. Definitelly a must in Le Havre.
Whilst this is a little out of the way, it is worth seeing. The gardens and grounds are delightful and the botanical collection is very good.
SO BEAUTIFUL! We followed signs from the center of town to Les Jardins Suspendus, and after walking for about an hour, we arrived at this gorgeous place. Even though the view was tainted by some fog below, it was perfect for a sunny day. You can wander around the fort which was captured and later liberated during WW2 and relax on a bench to admire the greenery. There is even a little cafe to relax. Only the French would turn a place of such troubled history into something so beautiful and welcoming. WORTH A VISIT!
This former fort is roughly divided in two parts: serres (ground floor) and gardens with vegetation from many continents. You can take the stairs or elevator to this part. By the way: you have a beautiful view point to Le Havre.Free toilets, couches and chairs for the visitors.... we really really enjoyed this place.
