this beautiful garden hidden on a steep bank on the Dordogne is well worth a visit. Good value and enjoyable way to spend a few hours
A place that you could spend time just enjoying and walking among the ponds and water plants. The sound of water is very soothing and after a day of site seeing just what the dr. ordered
We called into Pierre's wine store to pick up a bottle of wine with dinner and ended up walking out with 6 bottles including a dessert wine. We only had very basic French but noticed a "English spoken gladly" sign in the window. The visit also changed the course of our holiday once Pierre noticed our Australian accents and invited us to Aillac night Fete where he said other Australians who lived locally would be present. These people opened their homes to us, showed us fantastic hospitality and made us feel very welcome.Pierre invited us on a wine buying trip through Bergerac where we gained experiences not on the regular tourist brochure.Pierre sells biodynamic wines that are of outstanding quality for a bargain price. His wines range from 6-9 Euro and he has fantastic knowledge and passion. As a wine retailer in Australia it was refreshing to see someone with so much enthusiasm. I would recommend anyone travelling through Carsac to call in, buy some wine and pick up some local knowledge.
Remarkable creation by husband and wife team (now managed by son) - surprising what 3 people can achieve with passion and hard work. Off the beaten track; away from the crowds; a series of aquatic ponds spread over a surprisingly large area, all beautifully created and maintained. On a hot day, bring a bottle of water and large sunhat! (and I've never seen so many frogs in my life before - all sizes and colours!)
The gardens are not very big - it will take less than an hour to walk the entire property - but make for a short pleasant excursion. They are not as grand as some of the larger gardens we encountered in Dordogne, but are still pretty. They seems sufficiently out of the way not to be very crowded (there were certainly very few people there when we visited).
If you have even a small pond at home, or if you just love aquatic flora and fauna, you must not miss this gem!The gardens are beautifully laid out with terraces of ponds full of lilies and surrounded by aquatic plants. The walk ways are gravelled and at one point there is a boardwalk through a large water area. The frogs were amazing, hundreds of them, many jumping off the walkways right in front of you into the ponds. They made fantastic noises to each other - lovely to listen to. The gardens also had many dragonflies, insects and unusual birds to see. The lilies were beautiful and the flowers spectacular. Although the gardens don't go right down to the Dordogne, the river is there in the background and is a wonderful back drop to the gardens. I loved it!! If I lived nearby, I'd buy a season ticket! At 6 euros it is money well spent for a couple of hours of wonderment.
These water gardens exceeded our expectations. Lovely setting on a hillside outside Carsac. Lots of beautiful water flowers, and fish too - plus the occasional frog. Good value for 5 euros.
This small attraction has wonderful views some lovely plants and if you arrive at the right time, you will hear the frogs shouting it out for mating rights...amazing. We found it a lovely way to while away a couple of hours or so.
Unassuming entrance leads to beautiful gardens with large lily ponds full of croaking frogs and beautiful water lilies and other plants. Set above the Dordogne river a fantastic place to spend an hours or two, recommended
Oh what a beautiful water garden. Set on the slopes on the east side of The Dordogne River with the wooded slopes of the west side as a back drop, the garden has to be the best kept secret in France. Follow the gentle path down and with every turn there is a surprise, be it a stream or a pond or a waterfall or a display of beautiful flowers. Take your picnic and enjoy the site and smells. the stars of this garden must be the frogs. The noise they make calling each other is just amazing. Got 3 hours to spare? Visit this garden, you won't be disappointed.
