This museum is interesting only for french or germans. Boring for other nationals. Half an our wasted.
As a British family living in Europe we like to visit lots of musueums, and I was shocked at how unfriendly the staff member in the theatre section was to my children. She glared at them, shaking her head. I have no idea what it was she thought they were doing wrong, and she certainly wasn't going to enlighten me. (I see I am not the only visitor to comment on this.) The museum itself is put together in a boring way, with items assembled in groups (religion; marriage; wine-making etc) without any any `story` to bring them alive.
I was very nicely surprised upon visiting this museumIt was interesting and informative and I learnt a lot about the history of the area and really got a good sense of the area. It's laid out very well and the staff were very friendly.
If you like history and want to know about the History of Alsace and the evolution of the people there, also about their clothing habits and their homes, you will get quite a bit of interesting info. at this museum
... but only a so-so collection. Worth the price of admission if ticket is purchased along with the daily pass from the history museum.
This museum has the idea of recreating the homes and environments that people lived in. Old toys, bridal gifts, beautiful pottery and so much wonderful furniture. Highly recommended. The gift shop is excellent!
I was first skeptical about visiting this museum at first as the entrance was mediocre. But once you enter, it opens up to a really spacious traditional Alsacian home. The museum explains a lot about how the Alsacians in the region live and their daily doings. By far one of my favourite museum I have visited in Europe so far. If you are into local culture wherever you travel, try not to pass this by.
Interesting museum, where you can see how people used to live in the alsatian region (furniture, clothes, toys, things of everyday life, etc). The museum is quite big. It is housed in three half-timbered houses and it is well organised. Everything is written only in french, so make sure that you take the english guide from the ticket office (the guide is for free). Generally, the museum was interesting, but I was not impressed...
It is a fantastic little museum to explore. Many items are displayed and give a more detailed illustration of the people living in the region a long time ago. However it is quite small and one doesn't take much time to finish walking.Overall it is an interesting place, definitely worth a visit.
As per the name, this museum is focussed on the history and culture of the local area. It is a lovely museum which I enjoyed, filled with many things to see. Tips: (1) There isn't much interactivity, so small children may not enjoy and (2) the direction/path of viewing is a little confusing across the floors, so I recommend that you take the guide at the entry, which contains layouts and arrows to guide.
I stepped inside this museum expecting to spend there 30 minutes or so... as it often happens in local museums but I was so wrong! It was a passionating experience: life and traditions of alsacian people are wonderfully displayed and explained. The audioguide is included in the entry fee and it could not be more exhaustive and clearer. The reconstruction of traditional interiors of houses in Alsace is also worth the visit. I am going to visit again Strasbourg and for sure I will include some more time in this wonderful museum in my trip.
This museum shows how life was like for everyday folk in old Strasbourg, it's actually a large house that you move around. Its interesting for adults but teens will get bored quickly, not much interactivity.
I really liked the displays and thought they seemed very authentic. But since I cannot understand any French, many of the displays were meaningless for me. They did have a booklet with a description, but not everything. The English was not well done. Also, it was difficult to traverse the museum, as the next rooms were difficult to figure out.
I stumbled onto this museum by accident and spent several hours there learning about the Alsatian culture through different themed rooms that went from the top to the cellar. A must if you want to understand this part of France.
This is one of those places which you tend to find yourself wandering into on a poor rainy day, but it shouldn't be just reserved for poor weather. This is a unique and well thought out museum showing the history and turbulent past of Alsace and Strasbourg. Once German, then French, it's history is unique being located n the border of Germany and it's traditions are very strong and quite rightly held onto, with much pride by the local people.A lovely old Alsace building with plenty to see and do, with beautiful architecture. Don't miss this little gem of a museum.
