My husband and I braved the morning frost and ventured out in hopes to see lions and tigers in Gdansk. We were not disappointed. Ticket prices are very reasonable and the zoo is open 365 days a year which is convenient considering 95% of business close on holidays in Gdansk. Some animals were hanging out in their indoor enclosures but they were clean and cosy. The zoo is well laid out and I would recommend needing at least 2 hours to walk the area and see the variety of animals. We stayed 2 hours and we rushed through the last exhibits. There is a children's area but we didn't have enough time to walk through it. I'm sure the summer months the zoo is absolutely lovely with all the animals being able to play out in their outdoor areas. We took a hotel taxi from Old Town to the zoo and it cost about 10 dollars (6 pounds) a person each way.
The Oliwa Zoo was a present surprise. It was massive as European zoos go. One can walk 3-4 miles around the entire zoo and the layout makes great sense. The cheetah, lion, tigers and giraffes were great to see and their habitats were very large and allowed them to run around and be happy. The lion enclosure is set up in such a way you can look into it with amazing views while still being able to see the entire area. The zoo because of its size takes a solid two to three hours to see in full. Well worth it and it makes for a great morning walk as well.
Maybe not the biggest but amazing place to see. Due to location ( in the middle of forest ) not only animals which r kept in clean, tidy ( not smelly ) cages, but also a nature all around is so worth to be involve in. Price is great as well as all facilities. It cost only 4 pounds per person to walk around as long as u wish. Was visiting zoo at the end of October. A bit chilli and some of the animals was indoors. Still, great fun x Highly recommend X
How not to love animals? Especially when you can take friends and have a long walk among them! Memoryes guaranteed!
Entrance price for two adults plus student (students are valid up to age of 26) = £10This is an extensive zoo with an amazing selection of animals. We visited in October and there appeared to be a lack of food and drink options. There is one well stocked and low priced snack area.Toilets were few and far between, again this seemed to be just because it was October and not in season. There is a small area known as Jurassic Park with some life size dinosaurs and a large assualt course, similar to 'Go Ape' in the UK.Animals are all well cared for and in suitable enclosures. My advice would be to wear comfortable shoes and take a camera. We took a taxi from Gdanske to the zoo.....it cost £10 and took about 30mins. On our exit we asked security to call a taxi for us....they kindly obliged.Great day out
We used the whole day and enjoyed it very much. A bit difficult to get there, take the SKM train or tram to Oliva. From there it's 2,5 km walk or bus / taxi.Only a little kiosk to buy coffee or sandwich because it was low season.A lot of exciting animals. Very quiet, when we visited.Take also 0,5 - 1 hour to do the climbing route (20 pln) because the kids would love this!!
Extensive grounds with a wide range of animals. Well planned and signposted route. Good, cheap cafes, gift shop, plenty of seating en route.Overall, an excellent day out. Well worth visiting.
Enjoyed the tram and bus ride to the zoo which was an opportunity to see a bit of the fringes of Gdansk. The tram was very high tec the bus was not. The zoo was a disappointment. Poor refreshment areas and had to pay to use the toilets situated around the zoo. Penguins, seals flamingos and hippos in very dirty water and many animals could not be seen due to excessive foliage. I felt really sorry for the Condors looking out from a small box-like shelter. Lots of walking. Would not go again.
We have been to this zoo on several ocasions. Good value for price. There is lot of annimals to see. It us situated in the forest so even is hot you can always find shade. Only diwn side is that you need to pay for toilets!!!
Zoo is located in a huge park. It's quiet a big are, the entire walk-thru can take up to 3-4 hours minimum. Animals, birds and reptiles from all the continents. Parking is paid smth like 2 zloty per hour. Bathrooms, and cafés around the park ( quite over priced in comparison to downtown). Make sure to come earlier as they are closed at 7 pm.
I enjoyed staying in this zoo very much. Each animals has quite a large cage or field for themselves so I did not feel sorry to see animals which live in this zoo.( and they have great food to eat too.) I learned many things in this zoo= I was lucky that I have been to this zoo with a Polish she explained me many things. I love Poland in many way.If you like Poland and Polish people you must got to see this zoo and learn more about Polish. I was very happy to see European Bison which still live in Poland as a wild animal.Polish love this old form of a kind of cow and protect them.
Really nice place to visit with kids or with friends just to take a nice, peaceful walk. It is located near the forest, so it is not so hot there even in the summer, clean and not stinky. A bit hard to reach from the city centre, but worth it.
It's not the best one in Poland but the terrain it's situated in is fabulous. It's in the middle of the forest so even on very hot days you can find cool spots to chill. It's being renovated every year so it's pretty modern right now.
Super place to visit with your kids, easy to get the taxi back to the centre, as the have little kiosk at the entry, lots of animals," monkey jumping " was the hit for my kids, you need about 6 hours to have a nice visit, keep some change for the toilet...food area a bit messy, in terms of ordering and receiving your plate.
I'm usually not a fan of zoo's but this one is just amazing. It's situated just by the forest which makes it so serene and peaceful most of the times :) I love walking around and admiring the nature. It takes a while but trust me you won't regret.
