My husband and I take the trip to Killarney National Park quite regularly and a visit is never complete without a walk around the gardens of Muckross House and a bite to eat in the restaurant. The setting is just stunning and the walk along the lake from the house to the abbey is a must and you will see some of the best scenery the country has to offer. The restaurant offers counter service lunch and dinner. It’s always very busy but service is quick and there’s usually plenty of seats. The price is very good value considering the location, I had a lovely goats cheese and grilled vegetable Panini for €5.50 and banoffe for dessert was only €3.70.Definitely worth a visit if you’re visiting the Killarney region.
beautiful gdns and settings....you do need the weather to enjoy all of this visit otherwise its an expensive restaurant and a tour around the house, which by the way we did and thoroughly enjoyed but not for younger ones ,,they will be bored stupid
A great destination, the manor is still in wonderful shape and well worth the hour tour. The whole estate is just magnificent and an exceptional part of Irish history
Spent an afternoon touring the grounds while there for a wedding. The flowers were in bloom which was a nice bonus! With every turn we took there were "oohs" & "ahs" from everyone in our group. I highly recommend adding this to your itinerary while in or around killarney.
Beautiful house and gardens. Bring walking shoes! If you want to take a horse and carriage, get one in the main town of Killarney bc if you wait and get one to leave the house to take you back into the city, they charge more and want take you all the way back into town. Be cautious too, becuase they rush you when you get to the various sights. To us, it wasn't worth the money. The best adivce is to rent a bike!!!
Take the guided tour. The staff very friendly. Nice views from the house. Walk around the gardens and nearby forest.
Walk, cycle whatever way. No better way to spend a day withe family, couples or on your own. Scenery so beautiful and of course the great cafe on site with superb main meals or snacks. Muck cross farm also.
This was a lovely option for a rather dreary Sunday afternoon - the selection in the cafe was wide enough for a number of tastebuds and there were a great selection of cakes for those with a sweet tooth! The ground then had a good opportunity for a walk to help burn off the banoffee pie!
When you look around at the house one would think "who could ask for more? "The truth is the owners of the house ( several of them) did not live happly ever after. With that being said I like the story of the owners more than the house. The house is a gem like the ones found in New Port Rhode Island. We did not take the jaunting carts. Only because our time was limited...Well worth the visit...Liam & ColleenNew York
We were planning on only taking pictures of the house exterior and skipping the tour. But we decided to go on the last tour in hopes to get interior pictures. Imagine our disappointment when we were told no interior pictures are permitted AFTER we bought our tickets. My husband was especially annoyed as he was very hungry at this point. However, we were the only people on the last tour so it was like getting a personal tour! The house is beautiful in all its details and the history was actually interesting (even my husband enjoyed himself!)
I really don't care for Victorian architecture or furniture but I must admit I enjoyed visiting here it was a pleasant surprise the gift shop is really nice but best of all the restaurant has really good lunch food I hate shepherds pie I did not get it but my daughter and son in law did and they loved it I would recommend this place and would go back again
A beautiful historic house and wonderful gardens over looking the lakes where you can take a stroll taking go the breath taking views of the mountainsYou can take a very interesting tour around the house
We visited here on a recent trip to Killarney. The house and grounds are beautiful. Our visit was much enhanced by our tour guide who made the house come alive under her well informed and interesting commentary. We visited with two teenagers and our guide held their interest throughout. For €28 for a family of four we found this to be great value. I would recommend here as a great way for a family to spend a cold, wet Sunday afternoon in lovely Killarney.
We (my husband and 1 year old son) parked a short walk from the Abbey, from there we continued on to the house and then to the falls. The walk was several hours as we stopped to take in the sights and explore the beauty and history of the area. We took a horse drawn carriage ride back to our car. The operator gave us an audio tour along the way. We enjoyed the day Immensely!
Nice day trip. Beautiful gardens and farm. Nice walking paths. You can have a nice lunch inside or out on the patio. Pleanty of parking.
