The small seaside town of Pirita, about 5km from Tallinn's city centre, is a perfect destination for Sunday/holiday rides and a bathing area.Very nice the blue flag eco-label and sandy Pirita Beach.
I recently returned to Pirita in September and was surprised to note that the Sports Bar/Restaurant has now closed down; bankruptcy I was informed by a local. However, there is a Sushi Bar and another cafe located near the bus stop opposite the former Sports Bar.
We took the bus to Pirita (twice) once for a visit to the St. Brigitte's convent ruins & the other time for the Pirita Seikluspark. There is a marina and a couple of places to eat also. It's a really pretty area just out of the main centre of Tallinn that I'd definitely visit again!
For the very first time we used our own vehicle for the transportation in Tallinn. Therefore Pirita beach was easily reached from the harbor and the city center. Our family was there quite early in the morning but it was warm, clean and comfortable to stay there for a while, and enjoy Baltic Sea and summer. The beach is very suitable for the kids, and it is not so far away.
This where the water events of the1952 olympics were held. Today its a beautiful green suburb of Tallinn.
I never thought to have a bath in the Baltic Sea in Tallinn..with facilities and well served by public city transport..
This is another Baltic Beach which is a pleasant surprise. A short bus journey from the Sokos Hotel (15 minutes) it is a lovely change from the Old Town. A clean beach with great views with toilet and eating facilities. There are also Pine forests that lead right to the beach that are cool and refreshing.
The beach is nice. You can reach easily by bus from the Viru center or even on foot (c.a. 1 hour) or by bicycle. There you can rent a surf (15€ 1 hour). When I was there the beach was not crowded. The service on the beach that you can find there are those essential.
Spotlessly clean beach right in the city and warm clean water. Getting to spend a day at the beach on a city break can only be described as a plus for and trip and Pirita was the perfect place to spend a day in the sun. Can't wait to go back to Tallinn again and spend some more time there. You can walk out to sea for what seems like forever without it getting any deeper than your waist, it was also a family friendly place.
Nice beach, sand all the way out, long walk for a grown up if you don't want to reach the bottom when you're standing, but then again, perfect for families with children they have to look after. We could't find any toilet nearby, so we feared that many of the persons peed in the water x)
This beach would be a long walk from town, but you can take a bus. Once you get there, there is a nice walk along the road overlooking the water. There are boats to see and an old, not-so-attractive hotel. We were told that the hotel was built for Olympic participants (in the 1988 sailing competitions) and because it is historical, they can't change the outside. The beach itself is quite narrow, and there is a lot of seaweed, although the sand is soft. You can see the cruise ships in the harbor when you look back toward Old Town.
Pirita beach is close to Tallinn city center but to far to walk. Take the bus or a taxi. Soft sand, restaurants and so on. Couldn't have guessed that we could have a beach weekend in Tallinn!
Nice place with yacht port, beach, monument of sunk seaman "Rusalka" from 19th century times. Possible to go with yacht, RIB boat, etc. to some closest Estonian islands.
If city center is always considered as "the heart of the city", then Pirita is definitely the soul of Tallinn. To all the beach and sea lovers - this is the place for you. One can sit for hours and just stare at the sea. The view is spectacular, because at some point you will be able to enjoy the panoramic view over Tallinn city center. Mesmerizing!
We were staying in Old Town and my 3 teenagers and I wanted to, at least, stick our feet in the Baltic Sea. The young lady at the tourist information office at the edge of Old Town was extremely helpful , when asked about this. She provided great directions on walking to bus station, which bus to take, and exactly which stop, etc. Even though the weather was less than perfect, cool and scattered showers, the beach was beautiful. My boys went ahead and swam.
