This off the beaten path attraction is worth the effort, especially for good for kids and a must do for train enthusiasts . Right now the operation hours are limited, Sundays : 1 June - 31 August, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays: 25 June- 16 August , with five trips from 11:00- 15:45. This is a narrow gage rail road, right now it only goes 3.7 km but they are restoring the lines further with near future plans to extend to Roma. This EU funded project was started by a group of local train buffs that wanted to preserve Gotland train history. At one time there were several train lines on Gotland, now this 3.7 km is the only train on the island. They put on a good show, the conductors and engineers are in 1900's costumes and make an effort to create a feeling of really riding a train. From a quaint train station with a real ticket booth from 1900, to a conductor that punches your paper tickets. There are 3 passenger cars from different eras, the oldest (1870's) includes an original coal fired stove for your comfort, to the 1940's teak panelled car. There is a freight car for a caboose. There is a small museum with train memorabilia and you are welcome to walk around and look at the six other engines from about 1870- 1940. There are hand trucks, equipment and some buildings from past eras. The cafe has reasonably priced baked goods, sandwiches and a daily special, it is worth making the time to have lunch or at least a "fika" here. On the website there is limited English, only the time table, but if you click around there are very good pictures of the train, museum and vintage photos.
