We spent a morning at Millesgarden, the home and art studio for artists Carl and Olga Milles. The gardens were lovely. The entrance is subtle and understated. We enjoyed the special Anne-Karin Furunes exhibit. The museum shop was nice with a nice selection of goods. I found the gardens and sculptures to be inspiring and peaceful. We had a wonderful lunch at the cafe. If you like gardens, sculpture and art, then this would be great place to visit while in Stockholm
I actually guided a touristing couple in the direction of this place, and when I got here with them, the manager at Millesgården told me to keep guiding them inside. Never been here before. But a nicely spent afternoon.
The exhibition hall at Millesgården (through which you enter) is nothing special. It's when you leave the hall and head for the garden and the Artist's home that this becomes worth the trip to Lidingö. Very nice, quaint, special.
This is a true gem off the beaten path. It is well worth the detour though. The sculptures by Milles are engaging and interesting and the setting is so peaceful.
The most charming museum in Stockholm with a big sculpture park and a spectacular view. Lovely in summer and autumn and exciting in christmas times with christmas lights in the garden. A bit far away from centre (30-40 min from central Stockholm by tunnelbana and bus)...
Not everyone understand that this museum is open all year around, but it is really worth a visit at any time. Beautiful sculptures and a fantastic garden with a great view of Stockholm.
a place to be alone... sounds strange, but it's true. Try go alone and face each sculpture inside the house... especially in the big room and on the greek aisle... think that each piece has more than 2000 years. Really crazy... and the outside, the garden, is also beautiful... I smoked a "havano" there
Nice museum with a view over Stockholm. Also nice for a meal or coffee. Best if the weather is nice as a part of the experience is outside.
breathtaking place, if you are in Stockholm I truly recommend here!!!
We were here for the exposition "Pompei". Interesting and I would like to inform families with children that they have questionnaires for the sculpture garden and a separate one for the exposition. It's meant for kids of 5 years or more. Our girls of 9, 10 & 12 were running around to find the best answers and searching sculptures to draw the missing pieces. All documentation for kids as well as all information in the sculpture garden and exposition are in Swedish and English. Very well done for such small museum. We are living at Lidingö and regular visitors.
Not centrally located but absolutely worth the trip, which is quite easier and quicker than it may seem (metro + bus + walk, excellent directions on their website). The grounds with their view of the water and the sculptures are stunning. You will see angels flying and hands of God and feel like you’re soaring yourself.
This museum is great - if you like sculptures, and and want a fabulous view of Stockholm. It costs about GBP 15 to get in and for that money you get to see the current exhibition indoors, the park with all of Carl Milles statues, his house with the fantastic studio. However, if you are feeling a bit peckish and want a bite to eat at the coffee shop - be prepared for extortionate prices!
All sculptures there are amazing art pieces. The beautiful old house that once served as a residence to Mr. and Mrs. Milles is now used as a museum, and the gardens serve as an open air museum for a hundred of medium to big sculptures. A must see place if you plan a trip to Stockholm.
