I live in Stockholm and discovered the canal tour around the island of Kungsholmen. Pretty Karlbergskanalen where overhanging tree branches form a green canopy, marinas and an opportunity to see some of the latest housing development in Stockholm from the lakeside. This architecture can them be compared with the view of the grand buildings on Norr Mälarstrand towards the end of the tour. I actually learned som historical facts that I didn't know before. It only runs in the summer and I just happened to catch one of the last tours of the season.I found the price to be a little steep but then it has been a while since I last took a canal trip.
Stockholm is built on islands. There are many canals and you can do a very nice boat trip. I did it during mid summer I can imagine that in the winter it is very cold. Tour boats start from many stops in the city such as Nybroplan, outside Grand Hotel, Slussen and more. It is really a nicw trip and you can enjoy lovely landscaps.
During my recent stay in Stockholm, every weekends I would go out for afternoon walk so as to get natural light. The Stockholm Canals was one of such destinations.
It was cold but bright day to walk through the old town and across the canal bridges. The view and atmosphere was both relaxing and beautiful.
For 170sek (around 17€ / £15) per person, you'll go on a 45 minutes tour around Gamla stan and Djurgarden ! Free audio guides are available in every language possible, and are really interesting. I'd definitely recommend it. Be sure to check beforehand the availability of the tour. For example, I was there from the 13th to the 17th of December and the Royal Canal Tour was the only one available. From the 20th of December, there is the archipelago tour, which goes around Djurgarden too, and further into Stockholm's archipelago too !
Either if you travel with your "love", your family, your friends or even alone, you should have a walk around stockholm. For those who doesn't know, stockholm has been built on small islets that do get connected by bridges. Beneath those bridges, the water forms some canals. Everyone should visit them and check out the beauty of this city (& people...!)!
Stockholm is a city built on islands, with the result that there are many different water ways and a varied ways to take boat trips on these water ways. Sightseeing tour boats are leaving from many different places in the city such as Nybroplan, outside Grand Hotel, Slussen and more. In some cases canals where dug to connect some of the water ways. There are also shuttle boats connecting various islands at lower prices and without a guide.
If it summer and the weather is nice. A ride on a canoe/kayak or a boat during an evening in Stockholm is probably one of the best place to be (Stockholm archipelago is even better). This if you like nature and city combined. You can more or less travel around the whole of the city (you have to pass a lock that can be a little tricky) with the boat. And if you are in the mood you can take a swim at several places around the city.So don't miss this.
Nice perspective to see Stockholm, and pretty much to learn about Stockholm as well, A good "overview" one could sar. Especially for people who dont like/can excercise for whatever reason.
Lots of fun and with the right guide - very informative. Permits you to understand more about the history and continued development of the city. Not to mention the opportunity for great photos.
Take atour through canals! It is amazing experience how different stockholm is. I took inner tour for 1.5h and enjoyed a lot.
A tour in the canal "Opposit to Grand Hotel" is worth it and well organized, its a snap shot of historical/modern stockholm
Stockholm is a very cold city, the tour is very short comparing to Copenhagen's canal tours. in addition to the very cold weather that spoils the event
Since none of the more grand Archipelago tours were available in mid November, I elected to take the Canal Cruise. It was only 50 minutes and consisted of a circle around the same island the house the Vasa museum. If you get around Stockholm, you probably have already seen everything you are going to see from this cruise.
really impressive water ways that form canals and islands . nice architecture - for the camper owners there is a camping area in the center of the capital
