Visit the old part the so called castle and the modern new parts, the calendar of light. A new café is under Construction. Outside you can enjoy the green trees in Kungsparken.
I want to read books again seeing this beauty of a building. It is a great mix between the modern and historical times.
The light and appealing new part of the building merges well with the old part. For me as a temporary guest in Malmo, the library's attractions include a wide selection of foreign language papers and journals as well as a good choice of English language fiction (and other languages, too). There are facilities to plug in your laptop and study at one of the window seats with inspiring views of park & greenery (but be early if you want one of these). It is generally quiet enough to concentrate. Wifi is available for card holders -- membership is free, but bring an ID. Staff is friendly and helpful, the library organizes various cultural activities, and is open on Saturdays and Sundays. Chapeau for Malmo Public Library!
We passed by this amazing piece of architecture serving as a public library with my friends during our day trip to Malmö and I immediately fell in love in it. You can totally see yourself sitting in there, reading a book while looking out of the window overlooking the neat park located in front of it. If you walk around, you will find a few windows revealing the "library life" - machines sorting out the books and stuff.
The Malmö Library (stadsbiblioteket) have started cleaning out among books that are no longer considered suitable. They are not burning the books – only hiding them in the basement and only giving them to you on request. Stay away from this kind of politically oriented libraries.
This library are one of my favorite spots in the city, it is in the heart of the city in front of a very important park (Slottsparken), and the whole surroundings are just to die for.It has an old and new section and it blends perfectly, besides that the new section has studying tables in front of huge windows where you can glance the beauty of the park. I just love it!Besides this, it has a great collection of books and they always have great activities.
For you who are a foreign visitor this library is a good place for you to understand why most of us people living in Sweden gladly pay our high income taxes - because we get so much back:A public library, no fees, no membership, free for absolutely everybodyStellar architecture (the modern parts are by the same architect who planned the Royal Opera House in Copenhagen and the Concert Hall in Uppsala)A great collection of books, probably also in your language, as well as audio materialFree computers and free wi-fiGood value- cafe.A fantastic place for learning, relaxing, meeting people, and feeling good. "High on the ceiling -Seein' is believin'" (a quotation of lyrics by the American singer Anya Marina) - in the Malmö city library the ceiling is truly high!
this library is so bright that even on a rainy day it does not feel gloomy. There are excellent facilities and books for children- the music room is a great idea. The library is open to any visitor to sit and read a book and I highly recommend it both for buisness travellers and families.
Do you want to read the newspapers? Here you can read the newspaper and different magazines and have some quiet time. This could be good if you are in the town for a long time
I have spent a lot of time studying at this library. Ideal for foreigners; they have a lot of English books. Membership is free and with this comes free wifi. Also numerous computers to use freely. Great staff and a lot of quiet places to study. I just love this library!
If you're at all into architecture and you plan to do some walking around in central Malmö then check out the library as it really is a nicely designed building. Otherwise this beautiful piece of modern architecture makes for a great place to hang out and relax on a down day on your travels. Explore, read something, send some e-mails, have some cheap coffee and a decent sandwich, then go get some sun in the big park (Slotts/Kungsparken) across the street.
One of my favourite buildings in Malmö - the amazing city library!Definitely stop by if you are in Malmö, as it is only 5min away from Gustav Adolfs torg (very central square), through a beautiful old graveyard. The library is situated in a huge and gorgeous park, and you get great views from inside too.It is free to enter (you do not even need to sign up to the library), and you can wander around and read international newspapers, books in all kinds of languages (incl. for kids), etc - without even getting a library card!Wander into the old building to the left of the entrance, and walk through to the big new 'calendar of light' building on the right.Definitely skip the café and go elsewhere (it basically just serves people studying the library all day), and the toilets have seen better days (5 SEK fee + horrible UV lights..).But enjoy the architecture, and do check out the programme as the library hosts debates, author interviews, and many other events. (Many in Swedish, but also some in English)
Beautiful setting, helpful staff, huge choice, it's easy to spend hours here just browsing beautiful books. You can even have coffee and pastry at the café on the ground floor.
I think that any visitor should walk to the library. it is a great building. It is located near a beautiful park and worth a visit.
This is a beautifully designed library next to one of Malmo's many parks. We enjoyed spending half an hour here just to compare it to libraries back in Britain. Lots of different areas to browse and explor.e
