It is a very interesting place, the only one of this kind. It is devoted to those who were killed in Afganistan .
I dont understand why people visit it when they marry. It is almost in the center and close to the old town in Minsk.
This was a moving experience, not to be missed. Totally surrounded by water. Paid tribute to those who gave their lives for their country.
it is located in the old part of Minsk and also if the surrounding area is not so old like in other Capitals,it has its own magic soul and you will like have a walk there more than once....
We didn't know what to expect when visiting. What a wonderful monument to those young people and to think the mothers of all the different groups were the instigators of this beautiful, place just across from the old town. Well worth a visit
A very moving monument but you really should ensure you aware of the reason for its construction and that you closely look at the expressions of the faces. Do visit the statue of the angel on this island too - you may notice something odd!
Tribute to the Belarusian "volunteers" in Afghanistan. Lovely setting and very moving. Peaceful near city center
This is a solemn place where the women are homered who were left behind. The artist captured the faces of sadness and gives one the need to think of the losses of war.
The beautiful setting for this memorial is in striking contrast to the weight of it's importance and the gravity of the lives lost. The mini chapel has beautiful sculptures and plaques honoring the lost men. Beautiful frescoes have eroded away but the color and symbolism in them remain. It's a quick stop and easy to access. It's right near the giant sleeping dragon (apartment complex) and offers a nice respite from your day. Walk the paths or rest on a bench. You will enjoy the beauty around you and appreciate the reason this Island of Tears was constructed.
An emotional experience and a fitting monument to the suffering of the Belarussian soldiers and their families.
Do go and see the monument to Soviet's war in Afghanistan. The sorrow and sadness ouzes from the little chapel. However, it is not all sad. Newly-wed couples come here to put a lock with their named and date of marriage on the gate and to have their photographs taken. Behind the chapel there is a little fountain with a sculpture of a male angel. Touching him in a certain place will ensure that the bride has children :-)
This is a small man-made island in the centre of Minsk - commerating the fallen soldiers of war. It doesn't take long to walk around, but gives you a great view of centre-downtown Minsk.
I visited the Island of Tears in the evening. That did not make it any less beautiful. It is a small artificial island located in central Minsk, named as Old Town. Has a memorial in the form of sculpture to honor the soldiers Belarusians killed during the war in Afghanistan. At that period Belarus was one of the countries that made up the USSR.
This place is extremely memorable to the city, the history of the reason this memorial was build is very sad. It was built to remember all of the soldiers who died in the war.. and the statues of women surrounding this are meant to represent all of the grieving mothers. It really is an amazing place.
War memorial to those that fought a number of wars. It is a beautiful memorial to those lost and it continues to be visited by relatives of those lost, as flowers are placed daily.
