The museum displays various objects that show how much Hasdeu suffered after the death of his daughter. Some of them are really touching. Otherwise, visiting the castle is like travelling back in time in the house of a witch or magician. All the exhibits have captions in Romanian, English and French.

The Iulia Hasdeu Castle was built by Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu in honor for his daugher, Iulia, after she passed away when she was 19 years old. She was a very educated and talented poet (the first Romanian woman who studied at Sorbonne). The architect of the building, according to B.P. Hasdeu was Iulia herself, after her death continued to comunicate with his father. The museum is very well presented and preserved and is a wonderful place to stop as you're travelling from Bucharest to Prahova Valley or Transylvania. The entrance fee is 10 lei and you have audio guide included.

The castle offered a very nice program - with tours available in multiple languages on a free recording so that you could learn about all of the artifacts. The thing that I found fascinating is the way that the beliefs of the father are presented as facts throughout the tour. The castle was damaged by an earthquake and has been under restoration for years, but it was really a beautiful place to visit. Free parking was helpful too.

I visited the castle with a group of friends from highschool. The castle is located in a nice, residential area. Its architecture is interesting, the inside also drew my attention. I liked the fact that the guides told us a lot about the people who lived there and I was drawn to the strange aspects of it. All in all I feel that it is a special visit which will enrich my personality.

It is in Campina which is easy to get to from Bucharest, but I do not think I would travel to see it if I was not in the area (I live in Campina now!), or passing by on the DN1.These small museums are always in danger of closure since they have few visitors and little finance, often run by volunteers - and in a relatively poor country like Romania volunteers are few and far between. That said the Hasdeu Castle (just a house really) is looked after quite well and the curator/attendant took us round (we were the only visitors that day) and made an effort to explain what it was all about - so well done her - only Romanian spoken so take note.

The mistery and culture goes together. And if you are around you should visit the Nicolae Grigorescu museum, one of the most famous Romanian painter.

Iulia Hasdeu est une poétesse qui, morte a 18 ans, continua a communiquer a son père poèmes et musique d'outre tombe. Elle indiqua aussi le plan du château de Campina que le père Hasdeu bâtit suivant les instructions de sa fille.
