A really big place so maybe plan a day trip here since there are a lot of things to see.In most of the little houses you can enter and visit. There are toilet facilities, maybe not enough, a small shop where you can buy snacks and chilled drinks. You can also find a small market with traditional romanian foods and sometimes even some traditional music.A little bit far from town, just take the bus number 13.

We´ve been there as a part of our exchange visit and everything was perfect. It is a great area full of interesting old buildings. All you need is to be careful about the weather and plan in advance. :-)

A very large area with lots of different types of reconstructed old Romanian houses - it feels like travelling back to time. We visited it in the winter and the indoors were closed, but it was still a great experience.

This museum is a great surprise and we didn't expect to see such a variety of houses. It includes many traditional houses from different parts of Romania and it also has the interior of the house. Very nice to visit. Great in terms of any other world air open museum.

If you are interested in Romanian history and culture you should visit this museum. The best open air village museum of Romania!

I have seen lot of details mentioned by others, so I will focus only on what might help to be prepared for a visit there:- if any risk of rains, be prepared for (it is a walk in a large park, so limited places to be used as shelters)- if you have small childrens, better don't. It is pretty boring for them, and exhausting as it means a lot of walking.- there is a restaurant where you can take a break and grab something to eat. A bit expensive, but not too much.- toilets can be found at the restaurant area. Haven't seen any other places.- when is hot, take water with you. You'll need it and is not so nice to run to the restaurant and back to where you left with your visit.- wind mills can be visited inside, and you can climb and see the mechanism inside.- to visit the entire museum, you'll need a lot of time, and even speed.- in some houses you can find peoples that talk to you about traditions, how it is built, functionalities, etc. But this is a very limited option. So if you want details, grab an audio guide from the entrance (it costs you some extra fee)Enjoy the tour !

I paid Astra Museum a visit in March 2014 with a friend living in Sibiu. It is such a splendid exhibition with the diverse display of traditional costume, household facilities, and other cultural items from many centuries ago till now. It spreads over a spacious area, with lake, hills,..Very beautiful natural setting. Highly recommended this place for those who love sightseeing and cultural discovery, as you would definitely learn so many things about Romanian culture, custom, & society through a one-day visit.

This place is enormous! We weren't sure if it was closed on the day we visited (ie. just open to walk around the gardens, but not to go inside anywhere - no one said anything) but every hut, shed, house, windmill etc was closed so you couldn't actually look inside any of the (probably hundreds) of buildings. And we really wanted to. Even the toilets were locked up so probably it was closed, but it would have been nice to have been told before we paid to go in.

A must see, if in Sibiu! Choose a nice sunny day for walking and leave the rest to the soroundings in the middle of nature. Delight your eyes with some of the romanian best heritage exponates carefully rebuilted to reflect their authencity. Better than any other National Museum in Romania! If tripadvisor had have more than excellent option for reviews: this deserve 11 out of 10.

The largest folkloric museum in Romania. The park is very nice and the exhibits are great. Suitable for families, groups and couples.Enjoy!

We visited the Astra Complex in late October 2014 when all of the houses, exhibits were closed. Also, the day was overcast and rainy. However, even with these conditions, we found this a fascinating place to visit and very worthwhile the time spent, even without seeing the interiors of the houses. It is amazing to think that these houses were dismantled and then reconstructed here at the complex. Some of them are amazing and it is good that they were saved because before too long, houses like this and the people who have knowledge of how to make them will be gone for good. We spent a few hours walking around and still enjoyed it..including the donkey who seemed to be all by himself. We will be back in the summer when we are sure there will be even more great things, crafts, etc to see and do. Please give this site a visit when you can.

You need at least one full day to visit the museum that is a large beautiful park with traditional houses from all over Romania. Visit it in summer when the houses are open for interior visit and buy a guide to find out interesting details. If hungry there is a restaurant inside the museum.

I belive that Astra MUseum is nicer then Muzeul Satului from Bucharest. The museum is very big, and it's a great way to spend some outdoor time. It has a lake with boats and bikes that you can rent. Great staff, beautiful surrounding and good food.

If you're near this place and the weather is nice, grab a ticket and spend the whole day exploring this amazing museum and its beautiful surrounding, and talk to the nice staff that's always willing to share a story or two about what they're doing there. The museum is enormous and simply beautiful, strongly recommended to families with children. It's really is a great way to spend a day outdoors.
