Small cathedral in the center of the monastery is very beautiful. There is a famous icon of Holy Mother ("Konevskaya") inside.There is a souvenir's shop (it is possible to buy monastery wine) and cafe.

Beautiful churches to see. And monastery's wine can be bougt.Just remember to hide shoulders and knees. You can borrow some clothes which you can use to hide shoulders and knees.I think it's more valuable if token guided tour.

We stayed at Valamo as a stopping point between Helsinkii and Kuhmo--too long of a trip for one day! Valamo was a lovely and restful place. We stayed in a hotel room, which had two comfortable single beds and a bathroom with shower. Walking from the hotel to the restaurant, we could hear a cuckoo (käki) calling from the forest, a remarkable sound! Visitors are welcome to stop in at the church to hear all or part of an orthodox service sung in Finnish; we enjoyed seeing the icons and listening for a while. You do not have to be orthodox to stay here. There is also a museum, and a gift shop. The restaurant food, served buffet style, was very good, and we enjoyed some locally made wine there too.Valamo monastery is located next to a peaceful lake surrounded by birch trees, and during the summer they offer boat rides along interconnected lakes. We could not spare the time to do that but hope to return and do so someday. We highly recommend this place for those who like a quiet place to stay.

Creeck catholic monastery in Heinävesi . This name NEW Valamo comes because during the 2. World War Soviet Union (now Russia) did attact against small Finland and did steal it`s 3 towns including Sortavala on the shore of Laatokka lake and this monastery on it`s island called Valamo (Names in finnish). Before the soviet groups did come to the island the monastery was moved to Heinävesi with it`s many very valuable icons and others. Now the monastery is famous for it`s excellent wines and liqueurs.

We went to Valamo when the icons from the 'Mother' monastery in Russia were still there. The icons have gone home after being preserved here for decades. The monestary is VERY interesting for the history of the place, and for increasing young people's knowledge of Greek Orthodox beliefs. They make nice beeswax candles, too. You can get a meal or just coffee, and the coffee was excellent!

First, the Finnish nature is really beautiful in this part of Finland. The monastery is a very interesting place to visit, even to pop in for a coffee or for lunch if you are in the neighborhood. The buffet lunch is very reasonably priced. You should visit the church and maybe the exhibitions also, depending how much interest you have in religion in general. Note that if you are not familiar with orthodox religion, it is a good opportunity to see and feel a glimpse of it. There is also a shop which sells e.g. wine produced in the monastery and handicraft. If you have time take also the cruise on the lake with M/S Sergei. It takes about two hours, you will be taken to Varisvesi and back, on your way you will travel also in a canal and through locks. But most of all you have a chance to enjoy the beautiful scenary on the lake(s).

Area itself is worth of seeing, collection of art, shop with versatile offering (moderate prices & monastery wine shop). Basic level hotel is quite often fully booked in summertime - pls check reservation status in advance if you like to stay overnight. Cruise to lake and to locks in the evening with beautiful scenes. Great and moderate priced lunch in restaurant is worth of driving off the main road alone. Seasonal exhibitions has entrance fee.

Приятное спокойное место. То чего не хватает нашим коммерциализированным монастырям где каждый шаг за деньги. Тут такого нет. Очень вкусное вино из смородины.

A volte un biglietto d'entrata sui 20€ può essere normale, ma l'attrazione dev'essere decisamente all'altezza. Invece qui mi sembra di aver donato dei soldi alle persone del monastero (il che mi fa davvero molto piacere), perché se qualcuno entrasse senza una guida (che fortunatamente abbiamo avuto) non vede nulla di particolare, oltre a due chiese (una delle quali una casa in legno) con quadri ortodossi, un negozio e un'area-ristorante...Comunque è stato abbastanza interessante incontrare i monaci ortodossi (che parlano anche finlandese) e vedere le icone russe.

Путешествуя на машине по юго-востоку Финляндии, мы не поленились и решили посетить Ново-Валаамскую обитель. Монастырь расположен рядом с живописным озером Юоярви, в коммуне Хейнявеси, на государственной дороге №23, примерно на половине пути из Варкауса в Йоэнсуу. На территории монастыря находятся Преображенский собор, Валаамский народный университет, гостиница для паломников, кафе-ресторан «Трапеза» и магазин сувениров «Свеча». Преображенский собор небольшой, но очень уютный. На стенах висят красивые старинные иконы. Особенно примечательны две из них – чудотворные Коневская и Валаамская иконы Божией матери. Настоятель монастыря – финн, архимандрит Сергий, очень приятный и доброжелательный человек. Мы попали на вечернюю службу, которая шла на финском языке, но поскольку распевы один в один как в наших русских церквях, то в целом можно догадаться, какую молитву говорит батюшка в тот или иной момент.В сувенирной лавке можно купить помимо иконок и нательных крестиков, вкусный черный валаамский чай в брикетах, различные экологически чистые продукты, а также десертные, игристые, белые и красные вина. В целом, мы остались очень, довольны тем, что посетили это тихую, умиротворяющую обитель и отдохнули от суеты. Ведь монастырь – место для размышлений и молитвы.

Большое количество отечественных ценностей-в т.ч. две чудотворные иконы теперь находятся здесь и утрачены для России.Монахи вымерли и теперь- это больше бизнес проект с "бизнес ланчем" в трапезной,продажей напитков и сувениров-монастырь скорее номинальный.хотя там и живут монахи.

В это место перебрались монахи из Валаамского монастыря. Масштабы эвакуации можно оценить прикинув расстояние, которое они прошли.Интересно посетить вкупе с женским монастырём, находящимся относительно недалеко.Находится на берегу. По воде летом ходит кораблик.Чувствуется уединение. Зелень. Хорошо.На территории работает столовая, где туристы могут полноценно пообедать по весьма умеренной цене.Парковка около территории монастыря бесплатная.

Visitar el monasterio de Valamo es algo más que conocer una parte de la historia de la ih¡glesia ortodoxa en Finlandia, es, además, conocer el modo de vida de los monjes y degustar sus fantásticos vinos.Localizado en una bella zona de Finlandia, el monasterio de Valamo es sin duda merecedor de una visita. La entrada es gratuita y dentro del monasterio se pueden visitar las distintas iglesias y capillas, así como otras áreas como el taller de arte.Además de conocer las tradiciones de la iglesia ortodoxa, es imprescindible visitar su restaurante y su tienda para degustar los vinos producidos con distintas frutas, bayas, arándanos, etc.Algo a tener en cuenta es la visita al cementerio, situado a unos pocos kilómetros del monasterio, realmente espectacular.Como dato importante, señalar que no se puede ir en pantalón corto. Una visita muy recomendable.
