The building itself is already worth to see. Fascinating architecture but sitll very functional. I found the exhibitions interesting and influential. Robert Mapplethorpe's photos were some beautiful, some touching and the 18+ section very schocking. In other collections I liked especially the installations. I visited Kiasma on the opening day after the renovating. Despite of my timing, it was yet quite peaceful to watch the collections. After being in crowded Helsinki and being suffered from the traffic noice, it was really calming visit the museum.
Architect Stevel Holl has designed this nice building for modern art. The building in ïtself is very interesting and so are the collections. The museum shop is really good and one can spend ages there looking at the books and brick and brack. Recommed the lunch and in summer time a drink on the terrace. The big statue right next to the museum is finnish war hero Mannerheim riding his horse. The main street of Helsinki is named on him.
When I was in Helsinki, there is Marimekko exhibition. It was so attractive and fascinating. I'm not a museum type but this museum rocks.
I used to go to Kiasma very often when they had free entry once a week. It seems that nowadays it's only every first Friday of the month from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M. (when they re-open in March). The architecture is unique, and also the art displayed of course ;)
This museum is FUN! Not far from the National History Museum this one is about contemporary art and the building alone is a great adventure. Take at least half a day to enjoy this wonderful museum. The shop is nice and the restaurant as well. An absolute MUST in Helsinki.
I'm not very big with arts otherwise, but I keep coming back when ever I can. Relaxing...One of the nicest things to do in Helsinki.
Centrally located in an interesting building. The exhibitions are mostly interesting, too. At the moment it is under renovation. Will be reopened in March 2015. Some pieces of the collection are available in Taidehalli a couple of blocks away.
Kiasma is interesting, both fun and boring and a bit weird too! It's central location, easy to find and if you go on the right time you get in for free! So why not pay a visit?
Both the standing and current exhibitions were well-curated and interesting. Central location. This is one museum that you don't want to miss.
I usually enjoy visiting modern art museums when I travel. This museum was a bit... too modern for me. I suppose that hardcore modern art people would enjoy Kiasma more. But it was a good way to spend a rainy day and interesting artwork to look at.My travelling pal and I had the Helsinki Card so there was no fee for us.
Not interactive at all! Just a couple of interesting objects! Visited the museum several times and ech time hoping to discover some new names. The last visit was the best thanks to our 1,5 year old kid who was having real fun running through the instalations, while we were wandering around in critical mood.
Amazing Museum of Modern Art! Magnificent building: Museum is worth a visit just for the view of the building. Temporary exhibitions are not always interesting, but you can get the chance to see masterpieces. Very pleasant atmosphere inside the Museum.
The museum's building is a start of your experience. A nicely shaped and glittering facade is hinting - there is something really fun here :)There are 5 floors with various exhibitions. Some of them I liked more than others, but what amazed me is an extremely thoughtful manner in which all of them were organized. I didn't get bored for a sec! Pieces of art within one collection covered the same topic or were made by the same artist, but all of them were so diverse! It applies both to the types of objects represented (sculptures, installations, photos, etc), and to the variety of ideas. This made my visit so exciting and enjoyable!
I enjoyed the exhibitions, particularly Alfredo Jaar. I would say the quality of the art itself is a bit hit and miss, but depends on your taste. I enjoyed the interactive piece, and the building design is a pleasure to walk around.
This is an absolutely fantastic modern space filled with really great examples of modern Nordic art, with something to suit all tastes. Includes a lush gift shop full of amazing literature. Happy to have parted with the 10 euro cover charge.
