A beautiful forest with soo many Arctic animals which we would just see on a Nat Geo channel. The Polar bear, the brown bear, snow owls.. Amazing place. While we went it was slightly snowing but the experience is awesome. You can do a day trip to this place from Rovaniemi.
2.5km of animals, recommended to do also night visit to see the night activities.polar bear is an attraction, feeding it, and arctic foxes is a pleasure
Extraordinary experiment to see wild animals ; a lot of kind of owl, polar bear etc...about 2 hours, walked in park by admiring various wild animals...
Wonderfull to visit even in Winter. The Zoo is placed perfectly into nature. Most Animals are to be seen during winter too.Can highly recommend a visit.
Very easy to find. Which was very important for my English husband who never drove in the snow before and was stressed all the time. I'd say the price is a bit too much. But there we go. Take sledge by the entrance and go ahead. Lovely spacious zoo, animals have huge grounds. Nice to watch them. Enjoyed it immensely! And the best thing for us adults was the buffet lunch. They serve great food! Really good, did not expect such a great quality from a zoo cafe.
Nice and spacious zoo. They do a lot for the animals. And care much for them. They also help harmed or injured animals. When they are recovered they give them back their freedom (if possible).
It is not first time we are here with family, but first time during winter.Nice time spent here during Christmas. Polar bears and not many other animals were outside, but some were inside of houses. Birds were inside worm houses. Outside was -24'C, so for the visitors some open fire was arranged. No snacks or food during winter time, but on summer you can buy some refreshments. No brown bear this time.
We visited during Xmas as part of a 4 day tour in Lapland. We had a guide who put out food so we did get to see the Polar Bear (1) - the second was resting after giving birth - cub didn't survive. We also got to see a beaver (asleep in their den) boar, buffalo like animal, some lynx, a glimpse of an Arctic wolf and reindeer but that was about it - nothing special. We spent most of the time listening to the guide describe empty enclosures. Without the food to encourage animals out of their den or being lucky to see them in their den it would have been a disgusting experienceThis was terrible and I felt for anyone who had paid the standard entrance fee to see virtually nothing and get cold - then it occurred that we had paid but through another party. The owners should have more responsibility and be "up front" about whats to be seen or close the place over winter - a terrible few hours.Recommend a phone call first to find out whats available before parting with the cash or do not go in winter
Went with my family over Christmas. It was sold to us by the polar bears which we wanted to see, nobody told us that the Bears may not come out.We paid £125 each and when we got there we were told the brown bears were hibernating.this fact was fine but should of been told when booking. When we got to the polar bears they were no where to be seen and we waited half an hour still no sign.we did see the wolves which were great. Then the wolverines they were no where to be seen either nor the Lynx.I feel that £125 each to see a load of birds and some wolves was disgusting. To improve the zoo there needs to be a viewing station into the cages this way you can at least see the animals at rest .I would not recommend anybody spending this money as the zoo was very disappointing.
The zoo was an interesting experience. We visited twice, once in a group with a guide and once on our own and both times were good. It was a definite first, walking around a wildlife park in the dark, but it was fascinating. The environment is excellent, with the surrounding forest becoming part of the zoo itself and lending a very natural feel to the zoo.I was impressed by the 'local' nature of the zoo, with the animals being those you might expect to find reasonably locally and not imported exotics for a fake wow! I also was glad to learn of the zoo's policy for helping injured local wildlife and either providing continued care or release to the wild if possible. The zoo seems quite small, but considering how cold it was, a 2 hour or so visit to explore is probably quite enough so it was in fact the perfect size.
A nice, well laid out zoo.. Wasn't crowded and allowed us to spend a lot of time photographing the animals. Friendly staff. A great way to spend a few hours looking specifically at Arctic animals.
The best place to see all the native and arctic animals at this zoo. It's only an hour drive from Rovaniemi and it's an easy drive down. The zoo was little but yet very well planned. Love to see the owls and polar bear and brown bear. We're two adults but we have a fantastic time there!
Amazing to see a zoo with only arctic animals in it.The personal was very nice. You can rent a push chair for only 1€.I never recognized that there are so many different owls. Amazing. It is a not too big zoo. Very good with little children. Our dog could stay in a "dog parking area" and got some food. Very nice. Especially in summer.
we came here in Feb14 , all of it cover by snow it is the amazing experince , not much tourist it seems only you the the area
Well, I was there in winter, in the last days of December with my eight year old daughter. . The zoo must be more interesting in other seasons like summer or spring. Only good to be with children.
