Tollymore Forest Park is simply beautiful year round & is a perfect place to visit when you are in Newcastle. Tollymore Forest Park was the first state forest park in Northern Ireland, established on 2 June 1955. It is located at Bryansford, near the town of Newcastle in the Mourne and Slieve Croob Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. For anyone interested in photography there are some outstanding photo opportunities & for everyone who appreciates the beauty & wonder of nature then you really should pay a visit to Tollymore Forest Park. Highly recommended to all.
We always love our walks around Tollymore. The recently installed information points describing the bridges and the hermitage etc adds to an understanding and appreciation of this historic area.It is great to see that the red squirrels are being protected.Tollymore has something for everyone...- children can scamper by the river and jump over the stepping stones ably pursued by adventurous grandparents - the more robust can take longer walks far from the maddening crowd.Tollymore Forest Park never ceases to excite the senses!
Tollymore Forest Park has something for all age groups and abilities. The fabulous walks through the rhododendrons are spectacular in Spring. The duck pond with a plethora of ducks. The main valley walks are a great place for families to explore and the hidden waterfalls are energising. There's always something interesting to see from red squirrels to dippers, herons and if you're lucky a kingfisher. The open expansive views from the car parks towards Slieve Donard and Comedagh are breath-taking throughout the seasons with the ever changing mixed deciduous and woodland canopy. A great place to explore whatever the weather. Enjoy as I have done for the past four decades.
Never get sick of this place, it's fantastic for getting lost for hours and discover the "great outdoors." I will always visit here when I'm in the area, one of the best places in Ireland. Plus, Game of Thrones was filmed here!
Reminded me of Oregon and its Forests; Similar Pine-Evergreen-Fur trees and trails that are a real workout for the early day.
Beautiful clean place to visit and very quiet. Good for photography and a great place to take your children and dogs for a safe place to run and explore.
My husband and I traveled to Ireland to get married in 2014. One of our main destinations was to visit was Northern Ireland where his family heritage started, I had many places picked out in NI but one that intrigued me during my research was Tollymore Forest because of it's Ivy covered bridges. I was not disappointed and found Fairytale like scenery...... Ivy covered bridges dating back to 1726 , wild flowers hanging from the mountain side, dangling toward the fast moving stream below along side the gorgeous old world bridge, moss covered trees, fern forests and magical green mushrooms burrowing in the bark of a lonely hidden tree as well as a serene ambiance., The forest lies approximately 1 1/2 hour drive, south of Belfast. The trip was a pleasant jaunt through the countryside. The entrance was old world with hundreds of Majestic Himalayan Cedars lining the drive in after passing through a castle appearing gate entrance. I was so in awh of this place I didn't want to leave it. We will be going back more than once and plan to take a ride on a friendly Irish horse through this Paradise.
This has been a family outing since I was a child and I have taken my family there as well. It is just beautiful and a wonderful spot for a walk for 2 or a big family gathering. We have picnicked in all weather and on every occasion we have lovely memories. Not to be missed the stepping stone as they are great fun.
Love going here with my camera . Lovely river photos and a very pleasant place to have a nice walk. Restaurant is average , so bring your own picnic and enjoy the out doors!
My husband & I strolled this forest. Game of Thrones movie location got us there. It was an easy walk with scenic views!
An easy to walk through forest park with a spate river running through it. There is also a lake with resident ducks. Good spreads of autumn foliage changing colour. Squirrels, red and grey, wild deer and other mammals. The top of the park leads to the Mourne Mountains. Newcastle is not to far away for ice cream ,snacks or a good meal out. You can also take a walk along the promenade.
Beautiful excellent but steep walk for people withmiobility problems there are various walks of different lengths all very beautiful along side the river - good car parking - reasonable price £4:50 for a car
tollymore forest park is paradise on earth if you like nature and peace and quite,a lot of special views where ever you are in the park
Best place to get your bike out and start cycling up them hills!! Also great for walks . Nice pubs too for refreshments and if not too tired a trip to Newcastle for an ice cream!
Apparently some scenes from Game of Thrones were shot here and it is easy to understand why with some fantastic scenery that has a magical feel to it in places. Great location for walking.
