Really good. It is all accessible but without the contrived fake tourist guff. The residence and halls on the left of the main grounds (I can't remember the buildings names) are stunning inside. One thing I really did not like was the enclosure that had 8 or 10 different birds tethered to poles by their leg - I found this quite sad and disappointing.
Good place to vist for families lots to see and do. Plenty of history and good views of the city from the tower
We did a day trip from London to Cardiff and this was one of our stops. There is another castle in Cardiff, but if you want to see a thousand year old castle with rich history this is the place to see. Actually there are ruins here dating back to the Romans. There is also another manor on the property that dates back to medieval times. The focal point for us was the castle keep. You can climb up the original stairs to the top of the castle wall and get a great view of the city. The Cardiff castle is a convenient walk from the City Center and worth the price of admission. Enjoy!
Looks like a massive castle from the outside, but not worth the £12 entry fee. Not much to see inside. You will be done in a couple hours. Castle in the middle has very steep stairs. Old people should avoid.
£12 to see a national treasure, it should be free !! Not a lot there, but a good view from the top of the keep.
What a fantastic place to get married, amazing venue, fabulous service, great food and there are not enough words to express our gratitude to the organisers John Furnham and then Michael Pitt on the day. They made the whole experience magical for us and even arranged for the sun to come out for the arrival of the bride. Totally amazing experience and I would recommend Cardiff Castle to anybody who wants the full romantic wedding day.
The Castle was only five minutes from our hotel se we thought - why not.Really worthwhile visit, plenty of interest within the walls and the best part was the conducted tour of the house. Really interesting and our guide was informative (not too much detail but he answered any questions) and added a touch of humour which really went down well with us. Well done. Not a cheap visit but overall good value particularly the house. On a sunny day it must be really pleasant.
We paid £12 to walk round ourselves on Tuesday 10th March 2015 in the morning. We definitely chose a good time as it was sunny and only a couple of visitors around, so we were able to take a lot of photos and could walk round at our leisure. The only issue we had was that as we got inside the house and got to the left turn to the clocktower, a group of school kids came from that direction and the guide following them put a barrier up to stop us going that way!! After reading that it was the most extravagant part of the castle and the man we bought our tickets off didn't mention anything about certain parts being off limits if you didn't pay extra, we were a little bit gutted! Other than that, the castle grounds were beautiful and very interesting, could do with a couple more information boards but can't fault it otherwise.
Liked: Lovely greenery, historical, interesting, audio tour excellentDisliked: Very expensive entry
Visited with my student daughter and a friend. Cardiff residents, including uni students are eligible for a 3 year pass to the castle, costing only £5. I recommend the House Tour, which is well worth £3 extra. Our guide was witty and informative, we were shown rooms decorated by William Burges in a very ornate Victorian Gothic style, quite spectacular. Other highlights included the Firing Line, where the staff (notably Kyle) are extremely knowledgeable and eager to pass on their passion for their subject. The wartime shelters are very atmospheric. The Castle is in the city centre, and your ticket is valid all day so you can pop in and out as often as you like.
