Great and very lnformative local museum, but why is there no email address? It may be that I am missing something, we take it for granted in the 21st century that we can communicate with just about any company anywhere in the world but it seems not in this case which is a pity because otherwise it is a great little museum.
This is a venue suitable for all the Family...my Grandkids loved it..and the shop inside is good for the little ones to chose inexpensive gifts for friends and family from their visit...
I love the Maclean Museum, its a great place for Inverclyde. It is extremely well kept and has beautiful gardens and outdoor areas.
The museum and grounds are well-kept and worth a short visit. Very eclectic group of exhibits. When I was there a special exhibit on WWI. Nice little gift shop - reasonably price. A nice sculpture in the yard; tried to get a photo but it doesn't photograph well because it is so 'see-through'.
Interesting museum on history of Greenock with an interesting miscellaneous range of exhibits. Free entry and worth a visit.
A great collection of exhibits portraying the local history. Bringing to life the industrial past of the area. This is not all you will find! Everything from a Samurai suit of Armour to Egyptian exhibits. It also has a great Art Gallery giving a good variety of styles and artists.Well worth a visit (and its free!!!)
Walking through Greenock, as it was a port on our cruise, we discovered this museum. It was a surprise: lovely museum, small, but lots to see. Moving temporary exhibition on WW1. Very friendly staff ladies !! Well worth a visit.
Exhibits include local, maritime, natural, and ancient Egyptian history together with an impressive art gallery.
As a local, I have visited the McLean Museum on numerous occasions! It's set within a beautiful building and grounds a few minutes walk from West Blackhall Street and the Oak Mall(the main shopping and town center area.)The museum is easy to reach on foot, or by local transport and entry is free.Set over the two floors, the McLean museum offers a good mix of exhibits for it's smaller size. The ground floor is mainly dedicated to local history and business, and boats a great collection of model boats and items from Inverclydes industrious past. The upper floor houses a collection of animals, and exhibits on world culture, including Ancient Egypt and Japan. You can see a mummy and a full samurai suit, as well as a man eating lion and Nile Crocodile! There is also a small art gallery and gift shop within the museum. All in all this wee gem is worth a visit from locals and tourists a like. There is a craft table and some activities for children, and with free entry it's a great way to spend a rainy day with younger members of the family!
Visited with my partner who was raised in Greenock but had never been here. What a gem of the history of Greenock. It's industry, the war and it's founder. Also got to meet the torch bearers for this part of the queens baton relay who were meeting here before doing there stints through the town. Well worth a visit.
Great exhibits on the history of this area. James Watt information and artefacts very well displayed. Also a lovely small art gallery showing the permanent collection and regular temporary exhibitions.Craft table for children and a trail for them to complete through the museum exhibits. Well worth a visit for the whole family.
The museum has a little bit of everything, which is both good and bad. There's certainly enough to interest anyone, including ancient Egypt, shipbuilding and animals, but this makes the museum collection feel incoherent. Still good for a wee look round which is why we keep returning.
Excellent museum for local history and more. The attached library is also an excellent archive for genealogical research.
Great fun. Visited 60+ years ago as a child & I still remember the crocodile/alligator. Lots of local history & well illustrated in many displays. Excellent for children.
Took grandson to visit museum. he had fun and we really enjoyed our visit. will definitely go back. Always something new to see and different exhibitions take place.
