A number of us bought tickets to spend our hogmanay in Lorimers and although we had a good night we couldn't help but wonder what we had paid for when purchasing said tickets; other establishments we have been to over the years have provided a drink to toast the new year, a buffet or a band. However this year it seemed simply to be the cost of being able to be on the surprisingly quiet premises being served by mainly gloomy staff . We have been before and will no doubt return at some point but definitely not for another Hogmanay.
Visited here on a Saturday late afternoon for bite of "pub lunch" and OMG were we glad we popped in here. Somewhat uninspiring from the outside sitting between shops and a takeaway the interior is nice, a "bar area" for the groups of lads that seem to frequent this pub and a pleasantly decorated higher level seated/booth dining area. The waiter was attentive and friendly without being overbearing and the menu fairly extensive offering more than standard pub fare. We opted for chicken & black pudding stack and one of the specials, monkfish, which was served with rice and vegetable medley. We both absolutely LOVED these dishes, the flavours were fantastic and beat dishes eaten in some higher end restaurants. Compliments to this chef. I was so enthralled I opted for dessert (a course I'd normally avoid). I chose Belgian waffle which was very disappointing and largely inedible being so hard (possibly microwaved and overly so) HOWEVER I couldn't allow this to detract from the REAL cooking talent which was clear in the main course. Try for yourself!
Great service, good food , pleasant environment, and all-in all, good value for money. Not fine dining, nor haute cuisine, but good wholesome bar-food.
Vast open area with beer garden at the back where kids can play away. Pool table in corner of the bar always full of fairly noisy locals. Serve a good pint and wine prices are pretty good value. Have eaten a couple of time but feel that meals were slightly below average. Could do with re-organising the layout to create a more intimate atmosphere for eating and some more tables and comfy chairs would not go a miss.
My partner lives in Bishopton and I had never been to Lorimers as I tend to not go into unknown pubs. What I will say is that it is a very welcoming pub and the food is really good. It has a very varied menu which usually means that it will all be microwaved grub but if it is then it is well disguised as it is very good. I would recommend the chicken and black pudding which is succulent. The beer is reasonable and has a varied selection ranging from Stella to Kronenberg to Tennants. There may be ales on tap but I don't drink them so didn't check. The staff are really friendly and if you go in then you will not be disappointed.
Clean, pleasant and reasonable food at reasonable prices. Staff are acceptable to good. Free WiFi, access code is on the end of the bar. A short taxi ride from the Erskine Bridge Hotel.
Service was ok and food reasonably priced. More like cafe food than restaurant standard food. Better to pass through Bisopton and visit the Equestrian centre.
