This place of worship was superb. We saw it in its glory during the daytime and were amazed that it was a shrine to Thomas Coats who was one of the founders of J P Coats thread company.
I had my graduation ceremony in this church in a couple of years ago and it is a stunning building, both inside and out. The organ sounds great too.
Beautiful Church, stunning inside, warm feeling. Friendly welcome. Church organ sounds amazing.Visited today as part of Renfrewshire Doors Open Day, my daughter had a great time doing the quiz. If you want to visit one Church in Paisley then this is the one!
This a beautiful church with the original fittings. I was there for graduations wonderful experience for all involved...was a very warm day but the church was cool
Stunning church with spectacular architecture. Inside absolutely beautiful. Visited as part of the regenation Paisley scheme and would certainly recommend a visit for any tourist in Paisley. They don't build like this any more.
Stunning building inside and out. The stonework and architecture is truly outstanding. Wheel chair access at the rear of the building. Indoors matches the out doors for the presence of the building.
I attended my graduation here. It's a pretty enough building, which is rich in history, but the steps up are killer. It can get quiet cold, so I'd advise to bring something to wrap around you from fall until a heat advisory sign comes up.
Again nice building! lots of history would like the opportunity to see inside next time we visit. Attended a wedding there many years ago.
Try to have a guided tour as the guides are very knowledgable and bring the story of the building of this church alive. This is high end Victorian architecture with fine carvings in both wood and stone. Don't miss the Royal doulton toilets or the stencil work decorations in the vestries. Yes some restoration needs to take place but a very enjoyable vibit.
Thomas Coats Memorial Church was opened in 1894 as a tribute to Thomas Coats, of the thread mill business around which Paisley was built and thrived. You can wander around on your own, or take advantage of the voluntary guides, who are very willing to show visitors around - even 'behind the scenes' - and obviously take pride in their knowledge of the history of the Church. The awe felt at the workmanship of the building begins even as you approach and look up at its height, the many steps leading up to the thick doors at the entrance, the pointed Gothic arches and the tower - from which you can have a marvellous view over Paisley. There are stunning carvings in many areas and beautiful tiles on the floor. We spent about an hour looking around and would definitely go back, as we felt there wasn't enough time to take in all there is to gaze at - and admire. The Church is easily accessible, on the High Street (next to Paisley Museum), and is open for Services on Sunday; otherwise check opening times on the website. There is disabled access at the side entrance. It is also used for graduation ceremonies by the University of Paisley - and is a stunning venue for a wedding.
This is an amazing building. It is open on Friday afternoons from May to September but arrangements can be made at other times. As it is a living church, it is open every Sunday morning and members are happy to show you around either before the service which is at 11 a.m. or after midday. If you attend the service you will hear the wonderful Hill organ. The church was built by the Coats family, of thread mill fame, in memory of Thomas. They were fabulously wealthy people and no expense was spared in the building of the church. As a wedding venue it is second to none. Paisley has many interesting buildings including the 12th century Abbey.
This Gothic revival gem is worth stopping for. I caught it in some beautiful autumn sunshine. It was closed and I called the number but at this time of year it is visits by appointment and I was just passing through. I spent ages just looking at the outside tho and photographing it.I rang the number. left a message and a lady did get back to me but I was long gone. Walking distance into Paisley for shops, Paisley Abbey and a great coffee bar or two.
Well worth a visit. Check the days it's open to the public. The university of Paisley uses the church for graduation so it's always sensible to check at graduation time when it's isn't open to the public. If you like history and ancient architecture, you're sure to find the visit very worth while. Takes about ten minutes to walk to the church from the town centre and train station. It's also on a main bus route so getting here is very easy. Highly recommended.
We were amazed at this church.... we had no idea.Worth going in, sitting and just being quiet. Gorgeous gorgeous place.
My graduation was held here - beautiful building inside and out. Spectacular alter.Building could do with a good clean outside though!
