So enjoyed the beautiful interiors in this reconstructed Mackintosh house. It made the start of our 'Mackintosh journey ' around Glasgow special and informative. It was particularly helpful to hear more of the hands - on talent of Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh and her delicate and beautiful use of form and colour in her art work. Her designs are breathtaking and compliment the furniture and style of her husband . The use of space and light in their home gives an appreciation of their combined talents not achieved in museum exhibits. Unfortunately the tour itself is not long enough being only 30 minutes,so no time to linger.
the original house was pulled down to build student cafeteria!! but fortunately all plans, interior designs etc were preserved so this is a recreation - it feels very real and shows the talent of both Macintoshes
To be virtually in the rooms of the Mackintoshes was literally breathtaking. I was disappointed in not being able to take photographs and would have liked more than the 30 minute guided tour which went too fast. But it was informative and amazing. I wish I could have done this earlier in the trip - to recover from the headiness of it all, and return for a more earthly study a few days later. You don't get more Mackintosh than this.
We found this museum quite difficult to find as it is hidden within the Hunterian Museum but definitely worth the effort. Entry is by guided tour only and lasts for approximately 30 minutes. Numbers are also limited. Our guide was knowledgeable and explained much of the detail around the Macintosh design. I had personally not realised how gifted his wife was. Shame on me!
This was a superb visitor experience. The house was well presents to reflect how it was when Mackintosh lived there. The guided tour was spot on.
Fantastic museum with an excellent and informative guided tour, one of the highlights of our recent trip to Glasgow. Fascinating to see how modern and forward-thinking the Mackintoshs were, and great to learn more about Margaret McDonald Mackintosh, who is equally talented but less well known than her husband.
This is in the Hunterian Museum near Kelvingrove actually in the University of Glasgow. It's an abslolute must if you like to know more about the influences of the Mackintoshes desigen and architecture.
CR Macintosh design throughout, which makes it very interesting and impressive. You can only visit with a (free) guided tour, but it's worth waiting for!
I'm a newcomer to the world of Rennie Mackintosh. This visit was a great introduction to his work. The guide was informative and explained the great man's thought processes and the way that he worked in collaboration with his wife Margaret.
The home of the Mackintosh's has been preserved and rebuilt in a location 100 meters from the original location of the house. The interior has been exhibited meticulously well. Even though you have to be part of the tour the groups are small and often. There is not much chance to dally but the docents are well informed and can answer any question you might have. The house is definitely worth a look and the influences are still relevant today. Free tours inside the hunterian art museum.
Really interesting visit, providing an insight into Mackintosh's own home. The house was not designed by him but adapted to his taste. You have to go round with a small tour but this is not a problem, knowledgeable guide to take you through it. Once again it is free. Its part of the Hunterian Museum, didnt have time to see everything.
Fantastic to visit. On the red bus route which is great. Only down side ...the charming young man doing the guiding spoke so quickly that even as a first language speaker of English with some experience of Glaswegian accent, battled to understand what he was saying. Best thing? All government owned museums in Scotland are free!
Incredibly beautiful interior design and a small army of very knowledgeable guides to show you around and answer all your quirky questions. Love this cute place so much, I have been there 4 times.
For Rennie Mackintosh fans this reconstruction of his house provides a beautiful experience - a glimpse of how he designed his own home as well as other examples of Mackintosh and Macdonald work. The tour is expertly conducted.
A guided tour by students of art of Glasgow University. Amazing furniture and orientation of the rooms that allows light to just poor in.Followed by a visit to the willow cafe down town which was again was designed by the same architect.
