The University of Glasgow (Scottish Gaelic: Oilthigh Ghlaschu, Latin: Universitas Glasguensis) is the fourth-oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of Scotland's four ancient universities. The university was founded in 1451 and is often ranked in the world's top 100 universities in tables compiled by various bodies.[4][5] In 2013, Glasgow moved to its highest ever position, placing 51st in the world and 9th in the UK in the QS World University Rankings.
Filled with history and gorgeous revival buildings. Simply strolling around makes an enormous visual impact. The park in front of and below the front of the main building is worth a visit. This was the academic home Lord Kelvin (Kelvin scale), one of the world's preeminent physicists. The Hunterian museum (closed on Mondays) is also well worth visiting.
Did not have the time to see it from the inside, but the exterior of the building is really impressing.
Even if you don't get the chance to attend a graduation it is still worth a visit to the cloisters and the quadrants. The main University building dates back to the 1870'sI was lucky enough to attend four graduations at Bute Hall. Even if you don't get into the hall to see the graduation you can wait in the quadrant to see those in the Academic procession and graduates being piped out.
Biggest gothic revival piece of architecture after the Westminster palaces, gorgeous west end, must see on any visit to glasgow!!
inside the exalted towers of Glasgow University, is like wandering around Harry Potter's Hogwarts. Overlooking the river Kelvin and the Glasgow Art Galleries, you can view the expanse and skyline of Glasgow. A vist to the Hunterian Museum is recommended and then onto a refreshment in the coffee shop.
The University of Glasgow is a very old university dating back a few centuries. The historical old buildings are worth a visit. It is within walking distance from Kelvingrove park and the art gallery and museum. You can wander around the buildings and visit the Hunterian Museum. Check out the gates. The views are fantastic.
Great venue only spoiled by another noisy event event taking place in the upstairs bar adjacent to the balcony area - bad planning by the organisers. Gig was brilliant,Jack at his very best, a superb mixture of new material from Written in Scars album and his ever increasing old material. 1st time in the Queen Margaret Union for many many years and enjoyed it.Just sort out the multi-events please, could hear the PA from the bar during Jack's quieter moments
I hope I will come again wth more time o explore the place. Tis time, I have seen it only from the outside. But one day...One day...If you like Harry Potter, that's the place. If you like magic, that's the place.A must see.
The Hunterian Museum is one of the best settings for a museum that I have ever visited. The Cloisters and the Chapel each have their own special atmosphere. The Art Gallery is world class.
Want to see a full size dinosaur. this is the place to go. the architecture is amazing. Worth a visit and it's free. not far from Byres road where there are nice quirky pubs and restaurants.
its a lovely place and I've been there before with sweet smelling ascents as well. I've never had a better time to relaxe than this .
Went to the university to visit William hunter's museum but the university building itself is fantastic. A great architectural piece of work with fantastic views.
