Decided to celebrate my 70th birthday with the family on the recommendation of others, and was delighted with our meal and friendliness of the people. The food was excellent, served quickly and plenty of it. Will certainly visit again and recommend to others. Splendid.

Scallops with black pudding were awesome, love this pub, fantastic atmosphere , friendly staff and a fantastic landlord, defo in the top ten pubs I've ever visited and as a practicing pisshead, I've visited a few , always feels like coming home !

We visited last night, 14th Feb 2015 for a celebratory meal. The pub is very old, with ancient beams, a pleasant atmosphere and it was tastefully decorated. The special menu was not extensive- three sharing platters of starters and three main courses- steak, fish and veggie. This seems perfectly reasonable to me.The starter was a very high- quality plate of assorted charcuterie and chicken liver pate, obviously home-made. The relishes and Mayo were good.We both had tournedos Rossini for mains- absolutely fabulous, cooked to perfection, as were the vegetables.Even my white wine spritzer with soda was tasty, as they checked what wine I wanted. Service was good, not officious but did not leave you languishing.The (young) waitress was a bit rustic, pointing out that she would not eat oysters if offered them in the fish starter ("yeuch! I don't want 'em), but we can overlook that!A really good experience- we will be back.

We arrived purely because the pub next door was closed.. Great staff found us a table although it was really busy! Food was fantastic, came out surprisingly quickly and everything was cooked perfectly. Only ten pounds for a huge roast.. Best pub lunch I can remember. They even gave our friends young son free ice cream at the end. We will be making the journey again

We have been there for a few times now,always go back when you find a good one.Had evening meals and a rather lovely Sunday roast.Going again tonight for a super family meal.Would recommend to anyone they even cater for my daughter with her nut allergy so extra happy.

Family lunch of 12 fussy adults were catered for perfectly as usual. Food exquisite. Service with a smile, and overall. By far. The best restaurant/pub in the area. Cant fault it... Even my grumpy 80yr old mother. Came home happy which is almost impossible !! Well done all for a great venue!!

Had a family gathering for lunch over Christmas period. Good choice of dishes, tasty food and plenty of it! Staff were very welcoming - would recommend for a hearty meal!

Met up with friends for lunch on Saturday. The staff were very welcoming. Great menu with something for everyone ( our group ranged from a teenager to several members of The 1958 Club)Meals were well presented and were generous portions - even the youngest needed help to finish his chocolate torte.

Visited on a Sunday to watch rugby and have a bite to eat. Had panini & chips. Chips were excellent. Other meals available. Good ale selection. Nice interior. Good screen. Fire place is lit on cold winter evenings. Staff were friendly and polite. Regulars were welcoming and chatty. Will be visiting again.

Had a wonderful evening with work colleagues. Very friendly staff, fantastic food, pleasant atmosphere in a pub with fresh modern decor. I would highly recommend this pub for a meal with friend or family.

Really good pub to visit super food very warm welcome worth a visit.The new decor is great especially the toilets Paris being my favourite.

Right! I am Australian and love a good steak, something that eluded me to date in this gorgeous country. Until today. A trip up the road and sitting in the lovely surrounds of this recently refurbished pub I found the perfect steak. Done on the lava grill, cooked to perfection. Impressed. Topped off with homemade hollandaise and bespoke onion rings. Yum.

Me and a friend came to the spotted dog after they had a refurb following a fire and found both the decor and food amazing.It was very reasonable on price and you were made to feel very welcome buy the staff.Would definitely go back to this lovely little gem of a pub

We went here for a meal because I had heard good things about it. It was great! The inside was really nice and the staff were friendly and the food was good. I had curry and I can't remember what my husband had but he really liked it too. The fireplace was warm (it was freezing outside) and somebody did come in with a dog. We ate in the pub area, not the restaurant so I don't know if there was a specials board and didn't see anything about the pizza they supposedly do. Also the web site said it was steak night but didn't see any signs of that either but that might be because we were not in the restaurant. Didn't matter this time because we had what we wanted. We are puzzled about there being two pubs side by side...This place is great..go go go..and we do want to try the Sunday Roast at some point.

Came today for the first time for Mother's Day and the service and food were fantastic. The price is very reasonable and the portions are huge!!! They could get away with charging the same price for a slightly smaller portion as a lot of food was wasted. My very fussy 7yr old thought the chicken nuggets and play area were brilliant. Think we have found our new summer pub for the year.
