We have been to the park a few times and have found it to be very clean, tidy and in a lovely location. The family that own it are very helpful and friendly. The cafe on sight offers a lovely range of food all freshly cooked it's very clean and the staff are helpful. The shop on sight is very well stocked with lots of lovely things from food, toys and caravan accessories. The sight is next to the the river and has beautiful views and lots of lovely flowers. It's a good base for seeing Herefordshire and not too far from the welsh boarders
Immaculate site with a shop/cafe/takeaway/bar which offers great service and choice. Staff always helpful, beautiful setting and as close to perfection as we have found.
Lovely site, staff helpful and everything spotless. Only problem was the noise from some sort of pump/generator. We were on pitch 81 bit had to move during the night as the noise made sleep impossible. I could see there was some sort of pipe running up a tree outside the toilet block and this was where the noise was coming from. Once we moved there was no noise and no problem.
This was my third stay at Lucksall and hopefully won't be my last. As always I tag onto my best friends’ bootstraps and let them do all the hard work, they find good places to stay and I generally accept their gracious invites.Lucksall is set out in the countryside, 20 minutes walk from the Moon Pub/Restaurant and 30 minutes from the New Inn. The nearest towns, Ross, Hereford and Monmouth are some distance away by car. Buses do stop outside the site, but only about every hour. All three locations have a variety of shopping, Monmouth has a Waitrose and a M&S Food along with a nice variety of privately owned speciality shops. If you have night life in mind then confine yourself to the owls, herons, foxes and occasional bat. Oh, and of course there is the River Wye alongside for fishing and canoes. The pitches are large, very flat and immaculately kept. Everything is well manicured including all the staff we met. There is a playground which is reasonably central, ideal if you have kids but if not there are plenty of pitches for those who want a little more peace and quiet. After three stays we still haven’t got around to using the onsite cafe but most residents are of the opinion that the food was both good and reasonably priced. The shower blocks/toilets were all clean and well maintained, if you shower at 6-7.00 am it is very quiet. Nay later than 7.30am and you might even have to queue. We have caught a few fish from the stretch of the Wye by the camp site, but in all three years the river has been very low and better results have been obtained by fishing further upstream. If you don’t mind walking alongside the rather busy road and travelling light then you can finds some good swims. We have been assured by local tackle shops that when the river is carrying a few feet of water then Lucksall can be very productive. We have found two good tackle shops, one in Ross and one In Hereford – they are very helpful as to where you might find fish.
I visited Lucksall mid September for a 3 night stay to sample fishing. When I first booked I spoke to a very pleasant and helpful lady. I asked if I could have a pitch right by the river as I own a tent, I was informed that they do not normally allow tents on the river pitches. However the lady said as I was only staying for a short time she would give me a river pitch, provided that I would move my tent to another area within the pitch if I was going to stay longer (to protect the grass). I arrived and was warmly greeted, and given directions to my pitch and to to get settled. The pitch (24) was fantastic flat nicely mowed (you could have played snooker on it). Just a few steps from the river. The toilet block was spotless, warm and plenty of hot water, even though I brought cooking gear I decided I would sample the food, I am glad I did, it was freshly cooked, hot and I never had more than a few minutes to wait, the staff in the cafe were always friendly and you were greeted with a smile. The shop sells a good variety of important items (tin opener) yes I forgot mine. The camp site itself is pleasant just to walk around, with nice walks outside the site. I did not catch many fish, but I was not disappointed, just being on the site being able to relax in such a pleasant and peaceful atmosphere. I will be visiting lucksall again and would recommend any camper to visit. I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff at Lucksall.
This was our second visit to lucksall. It certainly is up there with the best off them. Lovely pitches, friendly value for money bar and cafe. All the staff very friendly, and great for kids and dogs. We will be back.
Stayed here for a night last week, very helpful outdoor staff & on reception but rather miserable in the cafe/restaurant! Not alot to do & if you don't have a car you wont see alot. Dog walk was lovely just right out of the site & cross over road at deer sigh. Park was a little noisy but it was nice to hear happy kids. VERY DOG FRIENDLY.
First the site it is very pretty, well kept. with friendly staff, so go just make sure you are not next to the playground!Canoe hire people are very good and it is well run and a right laugh! We booked months ahead and was dismayed to find on arrival we was behind the playground, the back of our caravan was just 1 meter from the climbing frame and was already very noisy when we arrived, we went back and asked for another picth but they was full, as I said I was annoyed having booked in February for an August stay! The playground is meant to be open from 9am to 9pm but other parents seem to think it is OK to let their children go into the playground at 6.30am in their PJ's with wellies so they can go back to sleep, I guess it is not the fault of the owners but I would strongly recommend they look at relocating the playground.I have 4 children myself and have no problem listening to kids playing in the daytime but honestly some of the older kids was just screaming non stop all day.We cut our trip short as I just could not take any more and quite honestly came away exhausted from lack of sleep! So thanks to the parents that allowed their children to scream from dawn to night it compleley ruined our holiday.I would also point out that both pitches either side of us also complained numerous times but nothing was done.
This was our first stay at Lucksall and certainly won't be our last. The pitches were large, very flat and immaculately kept. The site itself was beautiful with very well manicured grass and lovely flowers and plants and the staff very friendly, there was plenty of space for our daughter to play and ride her scooter. We ate at the cafe twice once for breakfast and once for our evening meal and the food was lovely with generous portions and reasonably priced. We loved this site and will definitely be back!
This was our second family camping trip to Lucksall with another family and yet again we were very very impressed. The ladies were happy with very clean toilets and showers and the boys were happy with space to ride bikes and explore. Staff as usual were spot-on, friendly and most of all, great with the children. Coming back for a third visit soon.
We stayed a couple of nights on this site after a recommendation from a friend and we were not disappointed. It is a beautifully kept site with generous level pitches and good clean washrooms. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming and they even let you set up on your pitch before having to pay! They selected a pitch for us near to the washroom and play park which was ideal for our two children. Only down side we could see was that the only thing separating the campsite from the river was a raised bank. This didn't affect us directly as we were sited away from that part of the site, but could be a concern for those with inquisitive youngsters. Fab time, fab pitch and would definitely visit again.
3rd trip to Lucksall and wont be the last! I'm pretty one dimensional on my reason for repeat visits here, it's all about fishing the River Wye! The site is quiet and may not suit all, public transport is limited and teh roads aren't suitable for walking far. But the site is kept spotless by the many staff as are the faciliyies. If you're looking for a fantastic base camp or access to the Wye this is the site! If you want swimming pools and themed nights then look elsewhere. I'll be going back here for many years I'm sure! You can buy permits to fish either bank, but be aware that most swims are "real river bank swims", dont expect carp pond style staging and places for 6 of you to sit next to each other. There are some big enough to share and some solo spots. There are barbel. Chub, Pike and Silvers here so plenty to suit most.
We camped at Lucksall the first weekend in August, us in our tent and 2 sets of friends in a motorhome and a caravan. Found all staff to be really friendly and genuine during our stay. On checking in we were shown where to go and told just to pop back and pay once we were settled, which was lovely and we certainly appreciated. Fabulous all weather pitches which are very big and very well cared for. Water points at regular intervals are good, and 3 toilet and shower blocks. I always found block 2 showers much quieter than block 3 where I seemed always to find a queue but nobody waiting at the other! Café really nice with loads of local ciders on offer which was fab. Shop quite well stocked and prices very good, not over inflated as you often find on campsites. I would say campsite quite full but never felt really noisy which was simply wonderful. All in all I would highly recommend this campsite and very much look forward to booking a weekend there again next summer.
Ticks all the boxes. Well kept, quiet, tidy, picturesque site, in an ideal location for my fishing forays to the River Wye! May consider pricing for individuals turning up in a 1 man tent. Could give people half the space of the 3 man tent spots and charge half the price.
We went to this site for 3 days and loved it.Great onsite shop and great prices which is a bonus.Lovely large flat pitches.we took our kayaks and used the pontoon onsite, lovely part of the river. If there is one thing that I would say it needs is a toilet block at the bottom of the site. We stayed at buzzard and it is a very dark and lonely walk at night, not great with kids in the middle of the night. All in all its fab and will definitely be back.
