a great place to walk leading to the st michaels and all angels church has museums open in season; the painted room at the council offices with town tours and information; prince of wales pub and miss muggins tearoom
A lovely cobbled Street with beautiful timber framed buildings. It was a delight to walk up this historic street & take some lovely photos. There are museums cafes pubs & shops with a Parish church at the top.The kind of street overseas tourists would flock to as Church Lane is typically “Olde England” On visiting Ledbury this was on the top of my list to visit & I'm glad I had the chance to explore at my leisure & enjoy the lovely surroundings.
This lane encompasses a millenium of British history and reminds us of how our predecessors lived with its architectural and social lessons from early medieval to the present day. Explore slowly and visit each of the shops and places open - see the panelled rooms and early painted and carved decorations in the council offices first up, then visit the little medieval butcher's museum, and of course pop into the pub half way for a local pint of beer or cider and pub fare like a Ploughman's or Scotch egg (if you dare). Gaze up the and and regard the perspective of the overhanging medieval black and white upper stories. As your each the open space at the top you stand before one of the Herefordshire treasures of ecclesiastical architecture with a separate bell tower from the main body of this fine Ledbury church. I was lucky to visit when bell-ringing practice was on and could stand inside the door and hear the ringers above and see the narrow entrance they had to climb to get to the rope pulling floor. Finally if like me you are in to building stones, take in the wealth of Old Red Sandstone hues and sedimentary structures on display in the magnificent walls and archways.
A wonderful cobbled street with timbered houses and a beautiful church at the end of it. As you walk along it is easy to imagine how it would have been in times gone by - the atmosphere is lovely and there are interesting little cafes and pubs, shops and museums along the way and it is very easy to while away a pleasant hour or two here. The Painted Room along this street is a must - so interesting. Would recommend a visit.
This is a beautiful little town with a lot of pride, there is a tourist information who will happily talk you through the history. worth a visit! also loads of independant shops. There is a goood amount of parking and that is fairly cheap.
A great atmosphere walking down this cobbled street with the timber buildings and church spire in the distance. The museum is well worth seeing and it was a shame I didn't have more time to look around the church which is unusual in that the tower is separate from the main building. We also had a good lunch at the P'tit Bistro.
Step back into what one fondly believes is a past time. All that is missing is some sentimental music. There is an interesting museum here, run by local civic society. Next to it is a tiny pub. We popped in here for a drink on a sunny day in September. It was full of interesting locals. Food looked good too.Lovely street with a Church at the end of it.Charming.
Ledbury has to be one of the prettiest places I have visited in a long time. There are lovely independent shops to explore, Mews leading to more shops and cafes but best of all Church Street. As you walk up Church Street the view is wonderful, you will find Chez Pascal cafe courtyard and this is also well worth a visit. At the top of the street is St Michael & All Angels which is Ledbury Parish Church. On entering the church has the most peaceful atmosphere and there is so much to see inside. Beautiful stained glass windows, art work, a collection of ancient books from the 15 century and so much more which is detailed in the visitor guide and free although they do ask for donations which I was happy to give.Clearly the church is very active in the local community with lots of events advertised and pictures of past events on display. All the people who help at the church are depicted on a notice board and I especially liked that the cleaning team are known as 'The Holy Dusters'.Don't pass up an opportunity to visit here, you will not be disappointed
A very old building which has a wealth of fascinating memorabilia and writing about the 15th Century building and its uses through the centuries. Well presented archive material and activities for children. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. A lot of other attractions in Church Street which we did not have time to visit and indeed Ledbury seemed to be a place to spend a day. Recommended.
I'm lucky enough to live here but never fail to feel good when you look up this lovely street up to the Church. England at its best. Particularly if you are on your way up to the Prince for a pint of Wye Valley!
Drive through here frequently 'saying must stop looks so fabulous'- always en route elsewhere with little time to stop. Did so this time as had 2 hours to spare and it all lived up to expectations and we only skimmed the surface especially as we had lunch as well. Church Street stand up with the best English Lanes.
Wonderful black and white buildings, a museum and a heritage centre plus lovely cafe and restaurants along the way. Amazing chocolate shop with hand made chocolates - what's not to love about that one? Walk on up to the church with its separate Herefordshire tower, lovely.
Church street in Ledbury is one of those old fashioned narrow English lanes that tourists flock to, it can be found just behind the market hall in the high street, and has many cafes etc and ends up as you would expect at the church (also worth visiting). Well worth paying a visit when in Ledbury or just passing through, another bonus is that there are some clean public convieniences part way up on the left hand side.
I am lucky to often work in Ledbury, using Burgage Hall on Church Street to deliver training. Church Street is just beautiful at any time of year but especially in the snow. I am lucky to often see it at 8am when very few people are about. A truly beautiful place.
We stopped in the town just for a quick pint, nice selection of independent shops, butchers, cider shop etc, Church Street is something straight out of a Dickens novel, narrow little lane with beautiful Tudor buildings, well worth stopping by for a pleasant walk.
