Spend a good few hours wandering the gardens and looking at the sculptures. Especially enjoyed the cactus and tropical greenhouses and the fountain area. Everything very well maintained. Close to the city centre which is a plus too. A real gem!
After some retail therapy in the hustle and bustle of Leicester City Centre drive a couple of miles towards Oadby and situated in the heart of the "old" Leicester University Campus you will discover this delectable tranquil garden. It's truly amazing how quiet and peaceful it is considering it's only a stone throw away from the A6 London Road. The gardens are beautifully thought out and maintained with nooks and crannies of interesting flower and fornia, established trees are impressive and curtain the entire park thus allowing a solitude peaceful experience. Though the park itself isn't particularly large, you can easily lose a couple of hours without even noticing. There is very interesting local sculpture enveloped within areas of the park that give way for peaceful reflection and wonderment, also does the calming fish pond with large Koi Carp bobbing up for air as they glide through. The park surrounds a beautiful old house (not open to the public) which completes the sense of a once sophisticated Victorian era.I implore you to visit these gardens for a rejuvenation of the soul and peace of mind. There are no refreshment facilities but I personally feel this is a bonus as it would be detrimental to the serenity, though I and others have taken small picnics to enjoy on the parks benches before ambling through a couple of the glass houses they have open to the public.I thoroughly recommend a visit to these beautiful gardens.
Great garden , circular paths make the going easy - few more labels appreciated... Order beds interesting and plenty of seats
Had heard of it but never been there before and was pleasantly surprised. A bit of an oasis around Oadby and worth an hour for a pleasant walk.
now if you like trees and a quite place to go then this would be up your alley situated in beautiful grounds interspersed with works of art sculptures etc there is a small cafe with accessible toilets, you can eat meals inside or sit on the patio outside the food is quite good and reasonably priced . Well worth a visit I think.
The café is only open out of term time over the Summer. It is part of the botanical garden and is safe for children (only one gate out to the road) to play in the herb garden.Lovely setting and good childs menu. Can often have items off the (limited) menu and tricky if the card machine is down.
The Botanical gardens are a wonderful free resource. In the summer the experience is heightened by the Sculpture in the Gardens and the cafe. It is a peaceful place to stroll especially on a Sunday morning. Suggestion if the cafe isn't open walk to Oadby and visit Zeph's,(not open Sunday). a lovely cafe attached to the church with the best cakes(homemade) in Leicester.
Whent with kids from school was great so toke my daughter again after and was a lovely free day looking round n lots of room to run n have fun x
The gardens were first rate and very interesting , parking was easy , and no entrance fee . Well worth a visit will be back in summer
Our Botanical Gardens are a joy throughout the year, but especially during the annual Sculpture exhibition each summer. Lots to enjoy.
A nice place to visit, in peaceful and pretty surroundings with lots of plants, shrubs and trees etc from all over the world. Overall a relaxing and therapeutic visit, its nice.
Beautiful gardens and greenhouses. The sculpture exhibition is interesting too. I go two or three times a year and on visiting in the summer was delighted to find a new cafe, although there was only outside seating, but it was nice to be able to have a drink on the lawns.
Been here a few time and taken a school trip to see the specalist green houses! Amazing and really educational!
Interesting place ,not really well known about even locally. well laid out with plant species and also sculpture, nice place to just chill out you just don`t notice the traffic on the A6 bordering it
