Very man made but nice to walk round lots of routes , big play area for tots and big ones, small indoor play centre with a small fee, nice gift shop selling local produce and a regular Sunday market selling local produce, I think this is monthly. Large cafe serves eying meals at weekends too, plenty if seasonal events, can get over busy in summer holidays
Second afternoon tea here with my mother, didn't disappoint. Lovely fresh sandwiches and plenty of tea. Service is great and the views lovely over the lake. We will be back.
Took the family there for a day out when staying at Billing Aquadrome in the Feb 1/2 term. Lovely walks, with 'adventure' trail activities round each corner like zip wires and rope bridges. Activities during the 1/2 term included making bird boxes and feeders for a very reasonable price. The free children's playground is big and our 6, 10 and 12 year old had great fun exploring it. Staff in the visitor centre very helpful and friendly. Parking was only £2 off season.
Based around lakes and the water theme, there is lots for children to play on and get very muddy/dirty. If you do go, be sure to dress the kids in old clothes and always take a change of clothes for them. The changing rooms are pretty basic and perhaps not worth bothering with but as for fun, the kids will love it. I guess ages 4 up to ten would enjoy it most and for the adults there are good walks around the lakes and a cafe that serves a variety of food at very reasonable cost. There are also many water birds about which can be pleasantly viewed from the gallery above the cafe. All in all a good day out, especially for kids, but expect them to get very dirty and probably wet as well.
Stanwick Lakes is situated off the A45 in East Northamptonshire between Wellingborough and Thrapston. No charge for entry but car park charges applies, between £2 and £5, depending on what time of year you visit and how long you are there. Opening times vary, only closes on Christmas Day. Great day out, as the title suggests, something for everyone, visitor centre overlooks the lake, cafe inside visitor centre, prices are a little steep though, 750 acres of parkland, canoe hire ( school holidays and weekends ) bird hides, photo opportunities, wildlife galore, assault course ( for adults and children ) Horse riding route ( for permit holders - website has details ) Childrens play areas, picnic areas and BBQ facility. Fab day out.
It is great for kids especially in the summer. The parking is expensive if you only go for a couple of hours
Super place visit most days with dogs - its getting developed now so can get quite busy. There is a really slick coffee shop and restaurant coupled with bike hire, adventure playground and tons of other stuff
This place is really fantastic for a day out with the kids. There is so much for them to do, climb on and in and you can go for a nice walk too. Take a picnic (although there is a cafe). It's a messy day out but you'll have tired fun filled kids. Really enjoyed it. Don't like the parking charge and barrier though. You are really stuck if you've not got change.
We absolutely love it here! Great for walking - many different trails with different views and things to do, they have an adventure ground as well which is great fun and the kids have a massive play ground area. The cafe is also great, food is good. There tends to be many kids birthday parties in there, which they love.
As others have found out to late I was also past the car-park barrier and committed to paying to get out before it was seen that my dog was not allowed off lead at any time. Poor signposting and will not be returning, I use Sywell country park now.
Stanwick Lakes has so much to offer everybody. There are plenty of paths which you can easily push a buggy around, or explore via bike, if not just by walking along. There are loads of animals you can enjoy trying to "spot" as you walk around, and just before the children are about to say they are tired or their feet ache, there are numerous play equipment, statues or aparatus to play on. The cafe is always clean and tidy and there are plenty of toilets, inside and out. Dogs are welcomed and children can really enjoy the outdoors, without the worry of traffic etc. We love going to the lakes, even in the colder weather just to see how things look as the seasons change. A wonderful place.
This is one of my cycling destinations along the old railway line from the east. The main attraction used to be it offered averagely decent espresso but that is no longer an unusually distinguishing feature (thank god). Can be too popular with 'park & ride' families and kids on high days and holidays...
Located just off t he A45 by Stanwick, this is a great place to take the family, for children or just to walk/cycle and get some fresh air.You do need to pay for parking and you can't really park in Stanwick and walk, unless you cross a Dual Carriageway on foot! (not advisable) but apart from that, it's worth a visit.
Then this is the place to be. From being able to watch fish to bird watching to benched just to sit and relax! A great family fun area. Or go in and have a meal!
Good place to have a walk and a bite to eat parking a little on the costly side only bad part of the experience
