What an impressive building! I loved how Art Deco it was, lovely to see a house so beautifully renovated. Will definitely be telling my friends to visit!

A brilliant few hours that brightened a dull day. What a little gem - full of surprises. Very warm greeting at Reception, and a super, knowledgeable Guide. The house was amazing and full of interest. Well presented display areas with just the right amount of detail. To add to this , do make time to visit the Tea Room. Lovely staff, pretty room and china, excellent refreshments, and good value.

A lovely museum with a great history. Did the tour which was very informative. A great place to spend a few hours in the heart of Northampton

A sympathetic restoration of the Georgian townhouse that was remodeled by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. A £7 entry fee applies, but this gives entry for a full year - good value.Although not a large building, free guided tours are available several times a day - this is a most informative tour, conducted by a volunteer. I am glad we joined the tour! And if you have time there is an excellent tea shop on site - "The Dining Room"

CRM fans must see.Everyone should see this little gem of a house. Rare opportunity to see a beautifully restored building. Cafe is pretty darned good too.

my wife and I love all Art Deco and the architecture of the period. This house is a superb example of the period and the skills of Mackintosh as an architect and designer. We looked forward to turning every corner in anticipation of what we would see next. Will visit again as it is worth a second visit to catch the small things we may have missed the first time.

Amazing place, a real must see. A fitting tribute to an excellent architect / designer. Beautiful Art Deco building

I was very impressed with the house itself and the video at the start put the visit into context in terms of the renovation work carried out. We opted for a guided tour - 3pm on Friday 20th February 2015 and there were eight people in the party. The guide put the video on and left the room, having given us no introduction to the video, the volume of which had to be set higher by one of the group. The guide was very informative and knowledgeable, therefore it was a shame that she showed impatience with any member of the group who lagged behind, failed to include or make eye contact with some of the party and peppered her talk with several judgemental and opinionated comments. We visited the restaurant after the tour and found the food to be of a good standard. The downstairs toilets were out of order.I am not sure whether I would bring any other friends to this house; if I did so we would probably do the tour independently.

Fascinating building, inside & out. Lots of information available. The staff were well informed and enthusiastic.Cafe & shop both good.

if you like CRM's style of architectural design then this is a must, being the only commission he undertook outside Scotland. If you visit I recommend the guided tour and then a solo wander about afterwards. It is equally interesting to learn about the client, Mr Bassett Lowke. Restaurant looked good, but was full and I was in any case put off by the noisiest screaming child in the whole world.

This is a hidden gem for anyone with an interest in design, history, model trains, art deco, local history or simply for a nice place for afternoon tea.Recommended that you take a guided tour with one of the enthusiastic guides. As the only example of Charles Rennie Mackintosh design in England this restoration is exceptional. The art galleries always have top rate exhibitions. A visit is guaranteed to live up to all that is promised on their website.Lots to see: so make sure you allow plenty of parking time on the meter as there is no on site parking!

loved the tour of the house and the high tea was brilliant! only point for improvement would be to advise front of house staff to remove apron if prepping food before guests arrive for high tea as the lady who served us had an apron covered in food and flour which was slightly off putting. the window seat was lovely though really good and service perfect!thank you!

A group of us went for a tea and we were very pleased with the quantity and quality of the food. It was presented nicely and the staff were most attentive without being in your face all the time. We required a doggie bag for the excess to bring home. Will go again. Should also visit the house and enjoy the beautifully restored house in the Rennie Macintosh style.

My father booked a group tour of 78 Derngate for my mothers birthday. I have to say, knowing nothing about Charles Rennie Mackintosh my attendance was out of duty rather than a passion for the renown architect and designers work. However within minutes of entering what on the surface seems an unremarkable terraced house in a Northampton street, I was fascinated and captivated by the story and the history within. The restoration, the museum the knowledge and passion of our guide were all amazing... of course this sort of thing is not for everyone and not something that would have held my interest in my youth, but to my surprise we all really enjoyed our visit :)

my wife booked for us to have afternoon tea on Valentine's Day, first impressions it is a very small intimate room. We had a great seat by a big bay window overlooking the garden and park. The tea arrived with nice sandwiches and savouries, I had a latte, my wife had a cappuccino, both were very nice. The next course came (yes you get 2!) this was the cakes , a nice place to visit for somewhere different, but beware space is at a premium
