Quick food stop. Good food and reasonable prices in an pleasant setting , then I can recommend the Black Horse. It seems they boil their own ham. I had beef in a baguette which was tasty and succulent, served with a large portion of FF. Some of the prices on the menu were very cheap indeed. Lovely coal fire today. Dogs welcome. Free wifi in a poor reception area outside.
Three of us called at about 1.30 which is a little late but we had not booked and so were hopeful of something to eat and drink. We had soft drinks that were cheap and pleasant - there appeared to be 2 or 3 real ales on if anyone was interested. The menu was well presented and the Special Board had good choice, I was tempted by the Pheasant Hot Pot but, in the end, opted for a Carvery as did my wife. The third member of our party ordered the Lasagne with salad and chips. We were quickly called to get our Carveries, Beef Pork or both. We chose Pork with wonderful Crackling, and all the usual veg, Yorkshire Puds and Stuffing. When we got back to our table our friend's lasagne had just been served so 10/10 for timing. All the food was delicious and was thoroughly enjoyed. We all used the toilets that were clean and adequate. The total cost for three excellent meals was less than £23 and I was very pleased that we chose this venue for our Sunday Lunch.
Called in today with a group of friends. About 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon. Pub was empty but we were warmly welcomed. Beers on the bar were good quality local real ales and this was encouraging. The landlord was happy to cook for us and we were unsure what to expect. The menu was a mixture of printed pages, handwritten sections and a specials board. Our friend is vegetarian and was struggling to select from the menu but agreed cauliflower cheese with the landlord. When the food arrived we were pleasantly surprised. All the food was home made and good quality and the portions were very generous. When the bill arrived we could not believe how little it was at just over £5 per head! The only thing we would mark the place down on would be the general cleanliness, particularly in respect of the lavatories. Otherwise we were very pleased to have found this place.
Is this place for real? ... Told to come back to order food as they had a table of 16 in. So the place was a third full. Drinks -lime and soda was flat two lagers were off. Seating area outside strewn with cigarette butts.
Heard great reviews of The Black Horse Inn, we went for a family lunch today and we were all disappointed in the meals and also the lack of cleanliness! When we arrived our table had not been set up (we had booked in advance) and was still covered in crumbs/sauce from a previous meal! The 'fresh vegetables' were clearly not and had obviously been reheated in the microwave, and all meals were tasteless and not the quality you would expect from a typical English pub. The ladies toilets were filthy one was completely blocked and the other was in an unsanitary condition to use! All in all very disappointed and would not recommend!
Visited for lunch with family. The food is very good value and plentiful. Two of our group had tea and at 55p were only expecting a small cup, but were surprised when a pot arrived which is excellent value compared to what you would pay in a well known High Street cafe where it costa lotta! They were even happy to do scrambled egg on toast which wasn't on the menu. However, there was plenty of choice and the fish platter, chips, peas and salad was tasty.I would recommend this pub she in Greetham.
Just enjoyed a lovely roast beef dinner at the Black Horse in Greetham Rutland. Food cooked to perfection, friendly atmosphere and most definitely NOT closed as some search engines suggest. And for information the correct phone number is actually 01572 868260!!Dog friendly as well! Thanks you for a lovely dining experience.
We enjoyed a meal at the Black Horse during a trip to the area. We both ate home made lasagne, a huge portion which was served with a really fresh salad. The lasagne couldn't be faulted. lovely open fire, ideal for a lousy winter night! Car park is a bit tight though!
