This church is just lovely - beautiful floor tiles, stained glass and ceiling. The staff were really informative & helpful. We went back later to use the cafe and would recommend that too - great scones!

This church is a beautiful church and it was where we wanted to get married originally but as they don't do weddings anymore or even have services we settled on St Chad's to get married at but even that wouldn't stop this church getting a good view, the church is beautiful and they do open to the public to have a look around and even at Christmas they have a Christmas card stands for charities to sell their Christmas cards to the public. The people who work at the church are so lovely and welcoming and I highly recommend this church to anyone.

Finally got around to going into this church after years of walking past when shopping in town. What a beautiful historic building. An antiques event was being held and there were some nice pieces. The stained glass windows are beautiful. Lovely.

A very impressive town-centre church with one of the tallest Spires in England. Well worth a visit, even a short one. From the noise of the town. A nice little coffee bar to one side is worth a visit

This is truly a most beautiful historic church. We've been impressed by small churches in our time and this one is right up there with the best. A beautiful church in a beautiful town.

This fascinating old church is well known for its beautiful stained glass windows. It is no longer a place of worship, but very innovertive trustees have diversified & hold regular Vintage Fairs, as well as some concerts. There is a small cafe inside which can do soups as well as cake & coffee. Wheelchair access is easy for the building as well as the loos.

This is a beautiful church that is no longer used for religious purposes on any regular basis. I used to quite enjoy visiting here (I spend quite a lot of time in Shrewsbury) I found that once a café was added, the whole experience was diminished somewhat. The café is wildly overpriced and I would avoid stopping there (there are plenty of other great home-owned café's within a five minute walking distance) the prices are really, really high and the staff aren't that welcoming or friendly, just proving that there shouldn't be a café at the side of a church!! My end word is that if you are looking for a great architectural example of a medieval church, this is your place... but I'm afraid to say that since the addition of a café, the place has largely lost its relaxing, age-old feel.

What a lovely way to emply an old church. We visited on a Saturday afternoon with a chocolate festival taking place. Nice cafe with lovely food. Staff were a little glum though!

This church is amazing, you must see the stain glass windows and the amazing ceiling. there also is a fantastic charity card shop and events organised there.

I have visited St. Mary's church over many years - it's tall spire is like a beacon of hope in Shrewsbury. It is a beautiful church that has a quiet peacefulness - well worth a visit when you are in Shrewsbury!

We (party of seven) visited the church and were blessed beyond our wildest expectation. The delightful lady steward/guide was effervescent in here delight to have sympathetic and interested listeners as she first gave the history of the stained glass windows and then allowed us into places not open to the general public. What a shame that the church is only holding services 6 times a year. What history, what majestic artefacts and above all what a joy to share the enthusiasm of the guide.

This church is famed mainly for the height of its spire and the extraordinary Jesse window with its jewel-like stained glass but is well worth visiting for far more than that. Its links with the Drapers Guild from the time when Shrewsbury was a hub of the wool trade are evident in the Drapers Chapel where we were lucky enough to see an exhibition of textiles created to the theme of The Arabian Nights. The standard was very high and the colours echoed the stained glass. Along with St Chads, and the Abbey, St Mary's is a must for any visit to Shrewsbury.

St. Mary the Virgin's church, located in the town centre, has the third highest spire in England and is now the only complete Medieval church in Shrewsbury. It dates from Saxon times with later additions and the main attraction has to be the internationally renowned collection of stained glass, collected from all over Europe by a former vicar. The huge 14th century "Jesse window", filled with figures of Old Testament kings and prophets and scenes from the life of St. Bernard, originally came from the Franciscan friary via old St. Chad's and was installed in 1788.There is a beautiful 15th century carved oak ceiling above the nave and the superb coloured Victorian floor tiles are delightful. Entry is free and photography permitted but a donation is expected. Knowledgeable and friendly volunteer guides are on hand to help with any queries. St. Mary the Virgin's church is most definitely worth a visit!

The sandwich was quite good, but the ladies who are serving need to buck up their act. No welcome, no hello, slow to deliver drinks (and food) and they ran out of brown bread. A lot of time spent whispering to each other which created a rather tense atmosphere. Granted they are working in pretty cramped circumstances, but a bit of cheeriness wouldn't go amiss. This was our second visit and it was the same on both occasions. We might try it again in a few months.
