Wonderful, I can't say I actively seek out art galleries, though I do enjoy art! Lots of interest, and something for everyone here, on different levels. They apparently even have wedding celebrations here!
This place is free so worth a visit. It is housed in a beautiful old building. If you enter from the front door, look up, fabulous old ceiling and staircase. When u went there was an exhibition of cotton fashion that was made in Manchester in the 50s. I really enjoyed this, there a video too. The other galleries contain art mainly. There is quite a variety. There are exhibitions which are pit up for shorter periods which look interesting.
Great permanent collection but disappointed that only one floor open.Posters and sandbags advertising the previous exhibition still in place outside 18 days after the event finished.
Granted that this is not like the big London galleries it is well worth a visit. When I was there they featured an exhibition of war themed art (to mark WW1). It was well curated and very interesting and though provoking.
I agree with the reviews concerning exhibitions and displays- a place of great art and food for the soul. Speaking of which the gallery shows great imagination in aligning their quality food with exhibitions when so decided so a Mexican exhibition would be served with Mexican food. I visit "seasonally" and whenever I go its variety is refreshing. I would recommend for group or solo visits. Excellent
Our first visit to this excellent regional gallery was terrific with a marvellous collection of paintings, which included a large number of Pre Raphaelite artists whose work we particularly go to see. Other highlights include a number of changing themed exhibitions (currently a WW1 centenary remembrance) but the main permanent collections have world class examples on display. Visitors and locals alike should undertake a visit here.
I have been to this gallery a couple of times and both were highly enjoyable. A few floors of some great art, a great afternoon well spent. It is a shame there are not more galleries like it in Manchester.
Have spent a brilliant few hours twice now walking around this art gallery. There really is something for everyone. The changing exhibitions are always great to see. A really wonderful place. Looking forward to going again soon as there's always something new or something I missed last time.
This museum can be viewed in a short amount of time or longer --- schedule permitting. We enjoyed perusing the rooms of interesting paintings and other artifacts. The sandbags with snow drops was an especially nice touch --- honoring the soldiers of WWI. Located conveniently in the city centre, an easy walk. Free.
Nice museum with a cafe area, has some nice exhibits. The snow drop remembernace display was very good.
A lovely calm place to visit with some marvelous exhibits. The WW1 exhibition is well worth seeing.Nothing to dislike.
Not the grandest collections I have ever seen but there was certainly a lot to view that was interesting.
changing in year ,but some pictures stay the same. A variety of genres ancient and modern, Interesting shop ,café excellent..Talks regularly .take place
Always feel proud to find some Italian artists everywhere I go to visit. I liked the exhibition. Very interesting. And I've found also a Renoir.
I love this place .... i could sit in the pre-raphaelite room for hours and my 7yo daughter loves it too we spent over 2 hours there it would have been longer but we attempted to eat in the restaurant which looked very nice and quite reasonable but the only thing in the kids section were cheese sandwiches and she can't eat it so sadly we had to leave to eat elsewhere
