The guides were very informative and made the tour come alive. The gardens were well worth spending time in and provide a nice walk.
We arrived early on a Saturday morning on the way out of town. It's obvious that this was a popular attraction based on the amount of available parking. Even though we were unable to spend much time, it is well presented and I bet in the spring/summer/fall the gardens are beautiful. That maybe be the absolute highlight of this location. Sorry to have missed it. Plenty of space to walk outside if the houses are crowded which I suspect in the height of the tourist season they are. Lovely presentation by staff regarding the Hathaway family which owned the house long after the death of Anne Hathaway. Learned quite a bit in a small amount of time.
Within half an hour's walk of our centrally situated accomodation, across a large park area, this is an interesting place to visit. We arrived just before it opened (10.00am) and this was probably a wise move as coach parties are regular visitors as the day continues. The guide in the small, atmospheric cottage was very friendly and informative and obviously knew her stuff! We enjoyed a wander through the woodland walk but this would be much better once spring gets underway. The gardens will also be lovely in the summer. A worthwhile visit away from the buzz of the town centre.
We visited this lovely cottage after visiting The Bards birthplace in Stratford Upon Avon. We found the visit fascinating and very interesting. We plan to return later in the year. Highly recommended!
Not much happening, on a winters afternoon at Anne hathaways cottage...too early for the surrounding gardens brilliant colour......but we enjoyed it anyway........as the friendly staff were happy to spend time imparting all sorts of interesting tidbits as we wandered around inside.....almost had this Intriguing cottage to ourselves.......well worth a visit!
A very enjoyable experience when we visited in early Spring. Lovely gardens full of spring flowers and lovely willow arbour. The house feels very intimate and has an interesting collections of artefacts including the famous second-best bed!Nice cafe on the opposite side of the road by a pretty stream. Would definitely recommend a visit as part of the Shakespeare experience.
Whilst this is a relatively small building to walk around, the volunteers and guides make this a really interesting experience! They are so well informed you really get a fantastic insight into the history of the place and the family!Bravo!
It was like travelling in the past. The grounds, and buildings are well preserved. It retains over the centuries an authentic atmosphere. Staff are friendly, and we enjoyed the preserved excellence of the home.
This visit was part of a multi attraction pass purchased at the birth place of Shakespeare, which is valid for 12 months, so offers excellent value for money. This was the final place i visited, as it is about 30 minutes walk from the centre of Stratford itself. However, the walk was very pleasant and the scenery was lovely too. The cottage, and the grounds that surround it, are absolutely beautiful and, once again, the guides were very friendly and offered great insights into the history of the building and the Hathaways. It can be a bit of a tight squeeze if there is a big group visiting, but we just explored the grounds for a little while until the crowds had died down, there is plenty to see and places to sit to admire the view!
Pleasant well informed staff made our visit an enjoyable experience. There is a good information sheet provided as well. The shop has some nice souvenirs. Well worth driving out there.
Lovely house and gardens - even in the winter. Bit of a tight squeeze when the coach parties arrive but go early to miss the rush.
Just passing through so pleased to visit the cottage, hopefully the other places next time. Caught the very interesting talk given by the guide which really made it for us as she referred to lots of sayings and where they originated from. Sunday morning so not busy so very tranquil with time to explore at our leisure. I think with just the sheet to read, you could miss things. Hope to return to see the gardens in full bloom. One small spoiler. Good that ticket valid for a year but lady asked us if we wanted senior rate......as we are not that age yet, it was not a good start. It did not spoil our overall enjoyment.
This was by far my favourite of all the Shakespeare houses we visited. The cottage is so cute and the gardens were absolutely stunning. Even in the drizzle the gardens looked beautiful and were a delight to walk round once the rain had cleared up. The gardens were my personal highlight of the visit but the cottage was well worth a look too, although this didn't take very long. I felt the admission fee was quite pricey but I didn't begrudge paying it as I'd had such an enjoyable time there but the price would probably put me off visiting again in the future.
I was here in July 2014 accompanied with my Cousin and her Daughter.I visited here on a school trip many years ago and had forgotten how truly wonderful and enchanting this place was. The gardens are so beautifully maintained and one can imagine William Shakespeare having written A Midsummer Night's Dream here. A huge compliment to the groundskeepers for the careful attention paid to the flora and fauna. The cottage itself is a step back in time and forms an important part of our British history; a true delight to walk around. It was fairly busy at the time that I visited but not uncomfortably so. The staff are all incredibly helpful and very well informed; happy to answer any questions that visitors may have. This is definitely somewhere that I'll be visiting again. A little tip is to buy the ticket that gives multiple entry to a number of the sights around Stratford-upon-Avon, including Shakespeare's House. It acts as a good cost saving.
We visited as part of a package ticket, which made good value.Out of season the gardens were dormant but so many bulbs were coming up it'll probably be lovely in the spring!!Lots of furniture spanning 400 years of history & knowledgable guides made a very enjoyable short visit!
